I didn't have very many friends. You might call me a loner. It's not that I was bullied. Infact, everyone liked me. Everyone was nice to me. I just ate lunch alone. I worked alone. I did group projects alone. I liked being alone. There was no one to hold me back, and no one to cast a shadow on me. I could show what I could do, and my abilities weren't enhanced or influenced in any way by a parter. It was all me. And I was proud of that. I was an over achiever. Ambitious. No one could stop me. I didn't dream about boys, or have nightmares, or any of that crap. I dreamed about scenarios that may or may not happen in the future. Me getting into my dream school, or getting an A on that essay that I spent hours working on. I was unstoppable. I was on a role. I had everything that I had ever wanted.

But then the government created a new rule. No one was allowed to be out after dark. No exceptions. No adults, not even the president was allowed to break this rule. No one knew why this rule had been put in place. Our town was very safe. There hadn't been any murders, or kidnappings, or robberies in over 70 years. The rule didn't bother me. I didn't spend very much time outside. I was usually inside, studying, working on a school project, or reading. A few stupid teenagers didn't take the rule very seriously. They decided to go out after dark. The next day, it said on the news that they had all died. Suicide they said. The whole town was shook. None of them had every known anyone to commit suicide. No one was more bewildered than me. Why would a group of very popular boys, who all loved their lives, commit suicide? I knew that the main cause for suicide was depression. And I also knew that none of these boys were depressed.

After that, no one intentionally broke that rule. But on a few occasions, people would get locked out of their houses, or get stuck somewhere. And the very next day, they would be found dead. Suicide. After a while, people started to get the hang of this new rule. They would make sure to plan to be home and hour before sunset, in order to make room for any problems. Work and school hours got shorter, in order to allow people to follow the rule, and still get all their after school activities done. And after a month, everything was normal. No one remembered the time before the rule was made.
