Fortress

I made my heart a fortress,

I built up all the walls,

There are so many barricades

You’ll never clear them all.

I placed it in a padded cell,

Held under lock and key;

There really is no way at all

For you to damage me.

My mind has summoned soldiers

To parade and safely guard;

I have trained them very well

To elude them would be hard.

There only is one single key

That opens up this lock,

The fact that I did give it out

It comes as quite a shock.

It’s really not a natural thing

For me to deal with trust

But of course it might not work at all

From all the metal rust.

My fortress might remain in place,

My heart stay in it’s cell,

For if you can’t open that door

It might be just as well.
