The girl in the red print dress waits for her Merman.  She stands on her rock, the rock that her Merman heaved up on the beach for her dry perch above the waves.  She longed for the gentle caress from his soft webbed hands.  She longed for the tang of the kelp that festooned his back, for the taste of the kiss from his cool blue lips.

She peered and stared, probed and waited as the green gray waves pulsed and washed around her favorite rock.  Her Merman’s rock, installed for her comfort.

From her dream an arm rose from the waves, a thin strand of kelp vine appeared at the end of her merman’s shiny green hand.  The kelp woven through with a series of pink and red shells, tiny shells with a delicacy of form.

“There she is” the attendant shouted.  “Get her away from the water before she falls in and drowns.”

The two white jacketed attendants gently but firmly guided the girl in the red print dress from the odd large rock she was standing on.

“What’s that in her hands?”

“Oh it’s a piece of kelp, let her keep it so she comes quietly."
