MY MOTHER

I never knew, my mother

I never knew her smile

I cannot remember anything

I never knew her face

If it glowed or shone

I do not know what she wore

What things she did like

I never saw her bow down

And cradle me in her arms

I never saw her leave the house

I never saw her with my sister and dad

I do not remember

I wrack my mind

But nothing shows

I never knew my mother

I never saw her smile

I did not see her sick

I did not see at all

I do not remember

Lying in her bed

I do not remember my dad

Passing me away

As my mother became sick

I do not remember

I did not know

Only whispers on my toe

I wish I could have talked to her

Ask her any thing

Give her a big fat kiss

Alas, I do not remember

I never knew my mother

I never knew her smile

I know I will always love her

For a very long while.
