Summary

Kiss me, kill me, I don’t care. I just need you to do something, anything, just to show me that I’m alive. Kiss life into me, make me feel again, and make me yours. Kill me to take me away, get me away from this life, this hell, this fucking monstrosity. Claim me, mark me, do anything to me to make me feel. Let me know I’m alive because I’m not going to feel that on my own. I’m not a human being, I’m a fucking cluster of pills and side effects and symptoms of all kinds.
Kiss me, kill me, I don’t care. Just make me feel again.

They’re having another identity crisis. Its happened so many times that at this point, it doesn’t really matter. They’re used to it. What’s their name? Spooks, right now. What are they? A ghost. Hey, stop laughing. It’s true. How old are they? Well, they don’t really know at this point. The car crash was three years ago in real time, but Spooks can’t tell how long that is for them. Time doesn’t work right when you’re a ghost. It’s all too fast.

It’s the middle of science class. Spooks is in high school, just like all the others. Spooks enjoys school. They like to learn. It just gets awful hard to learn when you don’t know who, or what, you’re going to be tomorrow. Maybe they’ll be Luke, or maybe Jack, or maybe they’ll just keep Spooks. Unpredictable, sure. Unrealistic, sure. But real? Happening right now in science class? Sure.

Ash is trying to talk to them. He’s in his Omega shift. They cuddled this morning. Spooks didn’t like it. Spooks likes the cold loneliness, and Ash is neither. Ash’s body is too warm. Ash is too friendly. Ash is being ignored right now. Ash is upset and afraid right now. Spooks can’t do anything. It isn’t like Ash didn’t know about the different people inside of his head. It’s not like Ash is afraid of that. Ash loves all of them.

The problem comes when not all of them love Ash. Bella and Volatile, always together, they both hate his fucking guts. Bella just wants to cry when she sees him. Volatile doesn’t see a person, he sees red. Jack is strange about him - not feeling much at all for anybody, but still enjoying having somebody admire him. Gooey can’t even register the existence of others.

Spooks has to calm themself down. “Okay, okay, make your list, right?” they whisper softly to themself. They grab their pencil and notebook and flip to a new page.

“Okay. Manis at the top. Manis is everything.” They write out the name and draw the box around it, with three lines going in different directions.

“Neutral, good, and bad.” They write the words down at the end of the lines, finishing the base of the diagram.

“Only Luke is neutral.” They write the name under the correct category. Luke, male. Enjoys memes. Sarcastically cynical.

“Good shifts. SuperNova, Bella, and yours truly.” Spooks smiles to themself, writing their own name. SuperNova, agender. Loves space, loves purple, loves glitter, loves everything. Bella, female. Been through a whole lot, but putting on a happy face. Lost. Spooks, agender. Cheerful little ghostie.

“Bad shifts.” Spooks frowns darkly. Jack, male. Manipulative, power hungry, professional asshole. Horrific, male. Loves sexualized gore. Gooey. No real body. No real life. No real anything. Izzy, agender. Mean.

“Who do I need?” Spooks asks to themself, looking around the room to make sure they haven’t attracted any attention. Jack handles the stress well, but he’s very manipulative. Crocodile tears. Bella would be fine, but she’s lost right now. Nobody can find her. She’s been gone since the incident with Ash. Maybe Spooks could stay? No, Spooks doesn’t treat Ash very well.

“I don’t wanna go…” Spooks can feel the tears behind their eyes, but they’ve gotten good at pushing them back.

“But this body needs Jack right now… Ash needs Jack right now…”

Spooks can’t go away. Spooks is still in control. Spooks can feel Jack’s annoyance.

“Maybe… Maybe I can stay a bit longer!” Spooks smiles to themself. They keep smiling, but pipe down, afraid of being heard. They’re lucky the music is loud. It’s too loud and they have to cover their ears, trying to get away. It isn’t working well enough.

“No Jack.. I want to stay here…” Spooks whispers as they are dragged out of control of the body. The body suddenly changes. Its back straightens up, and it stretches arms above its head. Its back cracks loudly and it shakes its head a little bit.

“God damn it Spooks..” Jack closes his eyes for a second and breathes out heavily, deciding to deal with them and Ash later. He needed to focus right now.
