The age of steam
The coming of the railways changed the way we travelled,
all them years ago, because steam was the way to go.
Dirty coal and a tank of water push the machines and took us places we never could go.
The steam trains looked amazing better than the dirty deasil ones today.
The best out there the Flying Scotsman the beauty of this machine takes your breath away.
I used to talk about them to my dad and he told me all about them in is day
He used to sit by the track watching the trains go clickety clack
They would count each carriage and catch the name of that loco
The best spot was on the bridge because they liked the smell of the smoke that filled the sky
He used to say as a boy they got so excited “The train as come at last” And he would jump for joy
As the train came passing by.
I can see why he used to get so excited cause they are amazing things. There like a time machine
It takes you back to how it must have been. I so wish I could have been there to see.
I have been one I go on it every year it’s a time for my children to see what opened the country up
For people to see.
We go every Christmas at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and the children love it. it’s not all
About Santa but the thrill of seeing and going on the steam train.
But most have gone now. I know there is people out there who restore a few.
A few is all there is now. But life moves on and we have the diesel-electric.
Cause they say travel is more energy efficient this way.
But I still love steam trains I hope they will never go away because people need to know about the History of the steam trains it made the country what it is today. It opened it all up for us to explore
So, come on people get out there and get on a steam train the tickets yes there not cheap but your
On a time machine and you will feel like you’re in the past.

I never knew this about steam trains. I just remember the steam train rides for kids when I was a kid. I thought cars made the world what is is today. But I guess since I saw back To The Future Part III, the trains came before cars, so I guess if it weren't for trains, we wouldn't of ever had cars. Great poem.

Very evocative of a simpler past, Simon. Good job.
