I lie awake on my bed, unable to fall asleep. All I can hear are the waves rolling into the rocky shore. I turn my head to look out the window. The sea is a beautiful shade of blue, with the sunlight bouncing off of it and making shadows. The rocks look like shapes someone left on the beach. These bring back a memory of a dream that I once had. I smile as I remember my want to become a mermaid. Maybe today is the day? I quietly get out of bed and creep over to the door. No one is awake except for me. I quickly take off my pajamas and put on my favorite red sundress, then head to the beach. My heart is pounding in my chest. The morning greets me with a warm breeze as I run down to the water. At first, only one toe makes it in before I feel the coldness of the sea, but I slowly wade into the water. First my ankles, then the rest of my body. I watch as the ripples form a circle around me, shimmering like magic. I close my eyes and start dreaming of mermaids.
