There once was a man who claimed he could hear the voice of God. God told him to kill masses of people. God told him to torture them. God told him to rape countless women. God even told him to rape a nine year old child. He obeyed God. Also, God wanted him to make everyone into his follower. Anyone who resisted had to be destroyed. He was very charismatic, and soon had many adoring followers. He was put on a pedestal. Over time, he developed an organized belief system (BS for short) with rules for living, and worshipping God. The BS appealed to many. After all, parts of it were innocent in appearance. Centuries later, the BS continued to flourish. Soon, even the non-believers defended it. The defenders argued "how can the BS be so bad if so many good people follow it?" Indeed, most of the followers of the BS were good. What the defenders didn't understand was that good people are not immune to cults. You see, the BS had all the characteristics of a cult but it would have been too offensive to call it that. Political correctness would not allow it. Anyone who would dare to question or criticize the BS was quickly shamed, and called ignorant and hateful. And so the BS spread all over the world. It was even encouraged and celebrated. Statistics showed it was the fastest growing BS in the world. "What's the big deal?" the defenders asked innocently. Hmmm....what harm can come out of wide spread cult mentality?
