Semblance

I tip-toe through the hallway

Until my shadow taps your silhouette on its shoulder

Until I rub the sleep from my eyes and realize

You're not really there.

I listen in the silence

And wait for you to tell me you're coming home

In a flicker, in a whisper, a breeze

Anything to show me I won't have to be alone
