Chapter 10

I stared at the aliens with gold eyes and pointy ears. They spoke to Zirk while we waited to board what looked like a ship.

"Follow this way." One of the aliens told us.

Helen went happily. I smiled at how she felt. We got inside the roomy place and were helped into strap on seats.

"We're going to the facility." Zirk told us as he got into a much larger seat. "Kit and Kat are taking us."

"Kit and Kat?" I arched my brow. That reminded me so much of the chocolate bar.

"Yes." He smiled as if he knew what I was thinking.

I wished that I could see what was happening at the prison but there were no windows other than the screen at the front.

"This is so exciting." Helen grinned. "These are real life aliens and we're in a ship."

I shook my head amused.

The ride was a short one. We landed and the door opened. Zirk helped us with the seats and then we were out to a really bright room. It looked like a corridor.

We followed Kit and Kat as they lead us through to an elevator.

"Well, I think you are all to wait in the cafeteria until the prison situation gets resolved. Have a good night." One told us, either Kit or Kat. I didn't know yet who was who.

"I'll take care of them Kit." Zirk told him.

It was Kit then. Kat reminded me of a surfer kind of dude. It was funny.

"Now, who wants a proper meal even if it is past midnight?" Zirk asked.

"I do!" Helen bounced on the balls of her feet. "I haven't eating anything but jail food for years. I would kill for anything tasteful."

He gave me a look.

"She doesn't mean like she will literally kill anyone. God, Zirk what kind of ladies do you think we are?" I smirked.

He rolled his eyes but pressed a button on the elevator.

I wondered why there wasn't any elevator music to go with this. It felt surreal somehow. We had just escaped prison and we were in an alien facility about to have something to eat.

It was odd.

"Here we are." The cafeteria like place looked deserted. There were floating large disks around. "Those are tables and the kitchen is this way."

We followed Zirk to a door. It slid open and we encountered a large room. He started sliding doors open that looked to be fridge like contraptions.

There was meat, fish, milk, cheese. Anything there was supposed to be consumed.

"There is fruit and vegetables as well." He opened those doors as well. "Take your pick."

Helen was awed as was I but I hid it well. We grabbed a few things that we were able to eat for the moment. I didn't even know if there was a way to heat up things here.

The floating large disks turned out to be tables. There were smaller disks underneath that were meant to be seats.

I floated on it and ate my food.

Helen moaned as she ate. I held back my laughter, she looked like she was in pure bliss.

"What happens now?" I asked Zirk.

He slid a fish down his throat before answering. "I'll talk with Rak about the agreement. It should be easy to shorten the sentence, maybe even give you your freedom."

Helen's eyebrows raised. "Do you think that's possible?"

"I don't know but it's worth a try. One thing for sure is that you cannot return to that prison. Horrible place." He frowned and shook his head.

"Thank you." She smiled at him. "Thank you for this."

"I should thank you for saving me. Who knows what they would have done to me." He turned his eyes to me. "Thank you for not leaving me abandoned a couple of days ago."

"Don't get mushy." I made a face and floated further from him. "I couldn't let you just die out there. I didn't want that on my conscience."

"That's the only reason?" He arched a brow.

He smirked. "I don't believe you. I think you did it because you found me attractive."

I scoffed. "As if. You're just like any other guy."

Helen looked between us and chuckled. "I can definitely see the sparks fly."

I rolled my eyes and kept them down on my food. "I don't feel anything."

"Sure." Zirk teased but there was an underlining of seriousness in his voice that I couldn't shake off. His wrist started beeping. "I have to go talk to Rak. Finish eating and I will be back." He stood up and walked towards the elevator.

"He's cute Evelyn. Maybe you should open yourself up more around him. Who knows? He might be able to keep you out of jail."

"I am not going to be with him just because of that."

"Then why would you?"

"I didn't say that I wanted to be with him. I just..." I let out a noise of frustration. "I'm tired. I can't think straight."

She laughed. "Fine. I'll leave you alone about him."

We continued to eat.

"Is everything under control?" Zirk asked Rak in the communications room.

"Yes. Everything will run smoothly from now on. They will all be getting added time, at least the ones that were behind the riot and killed the guards."

"What about Helen and Evelyn?"

"As you requested. Helen will serve a couple of more months and then she's free. Evelyn is completely free."

Zirk felt glad about that but at the same time knew that his time with Evelyn was coming to an end.

"Is something wrong?" Rak asked him, noting the not so happy expression on the zuko.

"Everything is fine."

"Your father called you while you were gone. I didn't tell him what happened at the prison. I simply told him that you were busy with something."

"Good." That brought him to the reality that he could do nothing about Evelyn. "I'll speak to him now if I can have the room."

"Of course." Rak closed the door after himself.

Zirk made the call to his home as he thought about the female he couldn't get his mind off of.

"Son." His father appeared on the screen.

"Glad you could come to make a call. I've been waiting."

"I was busy."

"I heard. I have news for you. Crez doesn't agree to go down to earth. Seeing as that is the issue you will come back home and convince her otherwise."

"You want me to mate with her already?"

"Yes. Maybe that will change her mind. How soon can you get here?"

He didn't want to go back home. He wanted to stay here. He liked it.

"Zirk? When will you get here?"

"After I take care of a few things."

"Crez is getting desperate and the land clan is impatient. We must make this union. Please tell me that you are not a fool like the other aliens and want to break our agreement." His father was becoming very angry. "Is that it? Is it another female?"

"Father, I have things to take care of."

"Don't disappoint me like your brother. Get here as soon as possible." He hung up.

Zirk clenched his teeth. He didn't want Crez. He couldn't tolerate the idea of it being her with him. He shouldn't break the agreement of the union but he didn't want someone else other than Evelyn.

Before he could stop himself and think it over he stomped out of the room.

He got on the elevator and headed for the cafeteria. The women weren't there but others were. They rolled their eyes and ignored his presence.

Fine he could ignore them as well. He closed his eyes and concentrated on the minds of everyone else.

He got a snipet of Helen's mind. They were in the medical center.

He went on the elevator and down to it. When he got there he saw them sitting in the waiting room.

"Is everything alright?" He asked.

"Yes. We were told to come here for a check up by someone named Ror. Big and tall alien with extremely sharp teeth." Helen shivered.

He hadn't even thought of that.

"We're fine though." She smiled.

"Good. I was told that you will only serve a couple of months in jail and then let free for your help."

Her eyes rounded in surprise. "What?! That's great. Oh my god, I'm going to meet my grandson!"

Evelyn giggled. "Congratulations Helen. What about me?" Her light green eyes waited for his answer.

"You still have a few years." He lied.

"What?" She frowned. "But I thought..."

"I'm sorry but since Helen hasn't killed in so many years and yours was recent. That was the verdict."

Her eyes hardened as he was sure her heart did as well to suck out all the joy. "Fine." She stood up and her intent was to go to the elevators.

"Wait. I think I found a solution." He grabbed her arm and pulled her away from Helen's earshot.

"What solution?"

"Be my mate." He blurted out what he truly wanted.

"Be mine and you won't go back to prison."

"Are you freaking delusional? I'm not becoming yours, you fucking psycho." She hissed. "Is this why you lied to me earlier? You said I would be free but instead you offer this."

"I said you might get out of jail." He reasoned. "Think about it. Even if you were let free, you have no home to go to. No friends either. With me you will have somewhere to live, food and not the thought that someone might shank you in the bathroom." He crossed his arms in front of his chest.

He felt slight guilt but not enough to tell her the truth. He wanted her and the anticipation grew at the thought of having her.

He would be breaking the agreement he had on his planet but for some reason deep inside he knew she was worth it.

Her eyes flashed an angry green but it looked like she was thinking about it.

"You know you feel attraction for me. It's perfect."

"No it isn't." She glared.

"You'll be going to the same prison." He lied further.

Her eyes widened. "But I the hell did I get screwed?" She stomped her foot.

"Say yes and we will be immediately bonded."

"I hate you." She seethed. "I hate you so much but I want my freedom otherwise they will kill me in there."

That sounded like a yes to him.

"I'll let Rak know. We'll only have to sign a marriage license in front of the correct officials."

"Screw you Zirk." She got on the elevator.

He waited until they closed to let out the breath he had been holding. If this felt right in him why did it also feel like infinite doom?
