Chapter 12

If he could have done the shopping alone, Zirk would definitely have tried. Yet he didn't even know where to begin.

Seeing as Mary was also somewhat new to the facility her help would be the best he could hope for. As luck would have it, as soon as the elevator stopped on the cafeteria floor she and Ror were waiting for it.

"This is great. I need you." He told her.

"I don't think so." Ror growled. "Not after what your female did."

"Ror." She put a hand on his arm. "It's okay and I jumped on her first. What do you need, Zirk?"

"I need your expertise on shopping for female clothes."

"I don't have much." She waved her hand over herself. She was wearing jean shorts and a tank top with sandals.

"No but you are almost the same size as Evelyn. She's slightly wider on the hips and this section here." He waved a hand over his chest.

"Are you calling me flat?" She giggled amused.

"You're not. I'm sure those are a nice size." He looked over her chest.

Ror growled at him.

"I'm not looking because I like them. I'm looking to make sure I'm correct. I believe I am."

"She might be a cup bigger." Mary intervened. "I'll help you but only because it's you and not her. I don't think I'd ever want to see her again."

"We'll be living here so that's a great possibility."

She sighed. "Come on. I'll be home later." She turned to Ror and stood on tiptoes, waiting for him to lean down and kiss her.

"Stay away from her." He whispered in her ear.

Zirk of course heard it but said nothing. Mary got in the elevator with him and they were on their way.

"So...her...Why?" She frowned. "She's so mean and a convict. Is she a murderer?"

"Let's not talk about that." He evaded the question.

She gasped. "That means she is. Oh my god Zirk. What if she tries to kill you in your sleep?"

"I'll be fine. I'm a light sleeper and without me she thinks she's going to jail."

"She thinks?"

"We are getting off topic. You will be in charge of parading the clothes for me while I decide what to buy. I hope they have a lot of leather."

"Oh boy." She laughed. "You and leather."

"What? It's sturdy and good looking."

"Sure."

The department store wasn't busy most of the time. Mary walked around with him as he looked. He got a few hangers of shirts. He liked the strap kind. He wanted to show off her shoulders and collar bone. He liked it for some reason.

They got sizes that were one up of Mary in difference.

"You do realize this is backless right?" She questioned a shirt where the back dipped.

"Yes. She has markings on her back, a tattoo. It's very attractive."

She arched her brow. "If you think so. You really like her, don't you?" There was a hint of a smile on her lips.

"She's attractive."

"What do you feel for her?"

"Appreciation."

"That's it?"

He hesitated and that's all she needed.

"My, my. Zirk the jerk is in love."

"I'm not in love." He countered. "I simply like her body and her mouth."

"Eww."

"I don't mean in sexual favors. She doesn't back down. She fights using her words even if sometimes they are out of bounds. Like how she offended you ladies."

"Yeah, guess she does have a mouth on her."

"She also reminds me of Xira." He confessed. He moved on to the rack of jeans.

Mary followed him, watching his face carefully. There had been a hint of sadness in his tone. "Who's Xira?"

"She was the girl I was supposed to mate with. She disappeared 20 years ago without a trace."

"I'm sorry."

"It's alright. It's a long time."

She put a hand on his arm to stop him from moving away. "Zirk, I understand that tone. It's still not alright for you. What did she mean to you?" She was reverting back to how she used to be with William, her client that only used their sessions to talk.

Zirk sighed. "She was my everything. I was only ten but even back then. That spark in her, that interested me and I knew that she was meant for me. I loved her curly black hair and her yellow eyes. Those eyes..." He chuckled. "They could spit fire when she got angry."

"You loved her very much." Mary's voice lowered and cracked. With horror Zirk saw her eyes well up with tears. "And you're mating with Evelyn because she reminds you of her."

"Mary, please don't cry." He looked around in panic. What the hell was he supposed to do?

She sniffled. "I'm sorry, it's just so beautiful. This love you have for her. Evelyn's still mean though and you shouldn't just have gotten with her because of Xira but it's your thing and I understand." She wiped her cheeks. "I'm fine. Let's continue with this shopping. Maybe being out of that horrible orange suit it will brighten up her feelings."

"Sure, as if that were possible." He chuckled.

"It will be. I'll even make an effort to befriend her."

"Thank you Mary."

She shrugged. "If she get's on my nerves I'll just attack her again." She skipped over to the lingerie.

He could see it in her head that she was speaking the truth. He followed her and looked around at the sets.

"What do you think she'll like?"

"With her dark mood and my interest, it will be dark colors." He grabbed a dark red set.

"This is so weird." She took the one he was holding and put it back. She took the cup size up from her own and gave it to him. "I can't believe I'm buying lingerie with you."

"It's for my mate."

"When's the big day?"

"We're already married."

"What?" She was taken by surprise. "Just a while ago you told Rak."

"Yes. The process is very different than with a human couple. Our process is simple and immediate."

"Well." She grabbed a black lace thing and handed it to him.

They went around getting things. For shoes he liked the leather boots on display. She agreed that if he liked them so much he should get Evelyn a pair.

She suggested a low heel and a tall one in case they went out or Evelyn liked high heels. Flats were also added to the growing pile.

They had left the things at the register once it was too much for him to just hold.

"I hope she appreciates this." She told him as he was about to pay.

"Me too." He grinned.

"I wish you love. Find it in your heart to make room for her. I think she needs it and that's why she's evil. She pushes people away before they can hurt her."

He nodded. Mary could have a point. He had looked over her record when he spoke to Rak before. She never had a real family, she was always getting into trouble and she had a bad mouth. She rejected people first.

He accepted the bags of clothes and shoes.

"I'll wait here for the next elevator." Mary told him. "Go take her that and make her smile."

"Thank you Mary. I'm sorry for what happened earlier."

"It's fine. I'll try to control myself around her." She winked.

"I'll see you."

The elevators closed and he was on his way to his room. He hoped that Evelyn was fine.
