Chapter 22

"You may sit with these ladies here. They are some of the bravest and most friendliest that I know." Lus beamed at Helen.

She blushed at the attention she was recieving from the older alien. He seemed to be slightly older than her which meant that together they would not look wrong.

What was she thinking? How could a man like him ever be interested in her? She was a murderer for godsakes, not that the men she killed didn't deserve it. They did but he didn't know that.

"This is Helen. I believe you know Zirk's mate, she is her friend." Lus explained to Hannah, Nadia and Mary. "I have to go back to work since Rak has left me in charge. I will be back for lunch though."

He smiled warmly at Helen.

"I will see you then."

"Thank you Mr. Alien." She looked shyly away.

"Please call me Lus." His eyes twinkled and he patted her shoulder before returning to the elevator.

Oh she was hopeless.

"This is cute in a weird way." Nadia initiated conversation. "Are you as mean as Evelyn?" She narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"I don't think I am." Helen chuckled. "She's not really mean, she's just gone through a lot in her life. She's always put up a wall to everyone. In prison we didn't talk much other than when it was time to eat or if we met other than there. She can be nice though. She did protect that big alien. Which I heard she married. Girl didn't even tell me." She shook her head.

"So, is it true you murdered your husbands?" Hannah dared to ask.

Mary gasped. "Hannah! We can't just ask her that. Can we?" She looked at Helen with the question also in her eyes.

Helen nodded. "I did but I had my reasons."

"Could you tell us?" Nadia got into it.

"I guess it wouldn't hurt." She whistfully looked over to the elevator. "Besides, it's not like I'm ever going to get married again."

"You don't know that. Lus looks very interested. Unless you plan on killing him then we will advise him to look elsewhere." Hannah gave her a pointed look.

"I don't plan on killing him if he does decide he likes me. That is if he doesn't abuse me in any way. My first husband was an abuser. He used to beat me black and blue every single day. I took it because he provided for us but then he decided to move on to our son and I snapped. I couldn't let him do that."

"Of course not." Mary agreed.

"Then my second husband turned out to be a pedophile. I found pictures of children on his computer's hard drive. I...I saw that he had taken some of my son sleeping and before it could get any further I got rid of him."

Nadia leaned over and put her hand on top of Helen's nervous ones. She gave her a small encouraging smile. It had been wrong to kill the man but she did what she thought was best.

"The third was a sneaky bastard that cheated on me often. That one I did because I grew tired of it and he wasn't providing for my son and I. Lastly, I think the fourth was just because he degraded me in everything he said. He called me names and I wasn't happy feeling sorry for myself. I almost got to him but then all hell broke lose when the dosage didn't work. So, there goes my life."

"Wow, that's a horrible life." Hannah felt sad for her. "On the brightside Lus would never do any of those things. He would love you unconditionally."

Nadia nodded in agreement. "Lakies love with no demands. Although you have to have the stamina for daily sex."

Helen laughed. "Goodness. You must be joking."

"No, were are not. We are completely serious but it is glorious and we never tire. You'll love it." She winked.

"I don't know. I haven't had sex in years. Then thinking about Lus like that..." Her cheeks turned a bright red. "Okay maybe I would be up for it."

They all bursted into laughter.

"This is great for us. I miss all our girls though. I can't wait until Rak arrives with Riley and Lacie. The other women too." Hannah sighed.

"Bea, Susan and Amy are going to make a party here in the cafeteria. It's going to be a party to celebrate the return of all the women that were kidnapped, including us." Nadia explained to Helen.

"That sounds nice."

"It's great too because you are going to be here for it."

Helen smiled sadly. "I am to return to prison in three days. Now that I think about it, it was foolish for me to think that something could happen between Lus and I. He's never going to want to have a convict girlfriend or someone that he thinks might murder him in his sleep."

"It will work, don't worry about it. Leave things to us." Hannah told her.

Helen reminded them of Riley. She may have a horrible past but she had payed for her crimes and most of her reasons for killing were kind of valid.

Nadia covered a yawn. "I think I am going to leave you. I am so tired lately. I'm also about to give birth any day now." She rubbed her belly. "I am going to go rest."

"Who's going with you?" Hannah asked since they still weren't allowed to go home alone.

"I'm going up to get Kat. Since I could go into labor he's allowed to leave work at any time."

"We'll see you later then." Mary smiled.

"I'll be here by lunch don't worry. At least if I can get out of bed." Nadia chuckled. She waddled to the elevator and the girls tried not to laugh.

"I should actually go back to the child center. I was only supposed to be here to eat breakfast. I will see you all at lunch." Hannah stood up.

"I'll stay here with Helen until Lus comes." Mary told her.

"Thank you dear." Helen smiled warmly. "You girls remind me of some of the criminals I knew. They were sweet although they had their extra curriculur activities. Not that I'm saying you girls have them." She laughed.

Mary giggled. "What would you like to talk about or know about this place?"

"Tell me more about Lus."

"I'll tell you what I know."

"What are we doing here again?" Catalina stared at the gym equipment with trepidation.

"Exercising." Selene answered.

"I thought that the classes we take for tactical defense was exercise."

"A little bit of running never hurt anyone." She got on one of the treadmils. "Or walking." She turned it on as Catalina did the same beside her.

"This has nothing to do with what that woman told you right?" She questioned Selene.

She had told her what Evelyn had said. Catalina had seen the hurt in her friend's eyes and thought that there might be something else besides the insult that had hurt her.

She didn't talk to her friends that were at the alien facility anymore. It all worried Catalina.

"She was a bitch and I'm over it. I'm doing this because I do want to be healthier." Selene actually wanted to lose weight and she hoped that going to the gym would help.

"You have a body to die for. I wished my curves were more like yours. I'm latina but I don't have a big booty to save my ass or your nice breasts."

Selene turned red. "I have fat, that's why they are larger than normal. Maybe I'll get a breast reduction or something."

"Don't. That is crazy talk. You are perfect and you need to learn to accept yourself. I do and your father does. I bet even your friends at the facility do as well. It's the only thing that's important not what some envious bitch thinks or says."

"She was not envious."

"Are you sure about that? I bet she was and she felt threatened by this beautiful, gorgeous new woman who her man could end up liking. Think about that." Catalina encouraged.

Selene shook her head. There was no way Evelyn could have felt jealous. That woman was beautiful and she looked right by Zirk's side.

Zirk. No, she shouldn't even think of him. Her heart still pained, even more so that he had found out about her feelings.

It was embarrassing to her. This was why she hadn't let herself think of being with anyone. To avoid heartbreak.

"Are you ever going to go visit them again?" Catalina interrupted her thoughts.

"I went like two days ago. I don't think I will be going back anytime soon."

"You should to show that woman that you don't care what she thinks of you. Hey, maybe you can take me. I would like to see all those aliens in one place."

"Is it that or because you want to meet one?" Selene teased her.

It was Catalina's turn to blush. "They're just men. Besides, Peter only died a few weeks. I haven't forgotten about him that fast."

"I don't know what I would do if you left to be with one of those aliens."

"You could always go as well. Find yourself a nice one that will love you forever." Catalina giggled. "I heard that lakies are the ones you want to fall for. Although they do have a pairing system and so far I haven't been matched up with anyone."

"You got into the system?"

"Yep, it was before I turned rebel."

"Oh." Selene was not in the system of course. "I'm fine the way I am thank you."

"Could we just pretend that we walked for a really long time and go get some breakfast? All I had was a glass of juice before leaving."

Selene agreed with her. "Sure."

They got off the machines and walked out of the gym and down the street. There were some new stores after the aliens helped in reconstructions.

Some walked around the city like they were regular humans. It made Selene wonder what it was that they actually did.

"Let's eat at this great cute restaurant. I heard that lakies are managing it. They have fruit and veggies, all fresh. Since you are so adament on now being healthy that could work for you." Catalina teased.

The thought of having a salad for breakfast was not appealing. "I want a muffin or something."

"Alright, there's another that has all the breakfast items you wish. I've been wanting to go and try out their french toast."

"That sounds yummier."

It wasn't far from where they currently were. When they arrived they got a table by the window and looked over the menu.

Selene's stomach grumbled in hunger. To hell with wanting to be healthier. She ordered a blueberry muffin, eggs, bacon and hash browns. Also a mug of hot chocolate. Catalina ordered her french toast and a meat omelette with extra cheese on top. She too got hot chocolate to drink.

They looked out at the people walking by.

"Are you going to the food drive the rebels set up for the families in need?" Selene asked her.

"Yep. Since they didn't want help from aliens I think it is only appropiate that we do what we can. I guess being a rebel can sometimes be good."

"It is always good."

"I know we mean well it's just hard being angry at the enemy when you've actually seen their good deeds."

"Let's just not think of their good deeds but rather what they have done wrong. For example the aliens that came and attacked earth. They never would have come had the first ones not been here."

Catalina arched her brow. "Maybe not but what if the good aliens came because bad aliens were going to take over earth."

"That didn't happen."

"But you don't know that for sure."

"Maybe not but I can almost be positive that all the bad things that have happened since they arrived is because of it. Look at earth. We're rebels and we don't get along with people that accept the aliens. We're also divided because of them."

"I don't know. All I know is that I don't hate them and maybe I never will now."

Their hot chocolate arrived. Selene sipped some and it warmed down her throat. "We should talk about more pleasant things. I don't think we will ever agree on aliens."

"I don't think so either." Catalina smiled. "It's alright to have differences though."

"Of course."
