Chapter 23

I chose a light green top to supposedly go with my eyes and then I remembered that they were probably not the same color anymore.

I yanked it off and looked for something else.

Zirk came from behind me and wrapped his arms around me. He nuzzled the back of my neck.

"What's wrong?"

"I can't find something that will make a good impression."

"You're their daughter. You don't need to make an impression." He chuckled.

I turned around in his arms and put mine around his neck. "What color are my eyes?"

"Yellow."

I bit my lip.

"If you keep biting your lip we will never leave." He leaned his head down and kissed me.

I purred and pressed myself harder against him. We had more mating earlier in the morning but I felt like we needed more now.

He bit my lip lightly and pulled away. "We are not doing it again at this moment. Wait until tonight." He smirked, knowing exactly what I had been thinking.

That reminded me. "Does this mean that since I can shift and all, I can look into other people's heads?"

"Yes but not our kind. Everyone has a permanent shield in place."

"Oh." I pouted.

"But for other species you can. Humans are a great choice. They don't know how to shield their minds from us and are more vulnerable."

"Hey, don't speak ill of the race I used to be a part of." I chastised playfully.

"I would never." He gasped in mock offense. "Is that what you think of me?"

"You are a jerk."

"You have a point. Now, put a shirt on before I change my mind and mate with you again. That would make us late to meeting your parents."

I sighed. "Meeting my parents. Wow. That's...god, I don't know what to feel about that."

"Do you not want to see them?"

"I do it's just that what are they going to say when they know that I was raised by humans. Apparently they are not liked at all here."

"They aren't but I know that your parents always thought differently. They are not like my own."

I stood on tiptoes and pecked him before stepping away and getting another shirt. I chose a black one that incidently had an open back.

I was wearing blue jeans and boots with it. They were the low heel. I was afraid of the stiletto kind that might not work in this kind of terrain.

"I think I'm ready." My hair was wild as always but I could do nothing with it for the moment.

"Come on then." He offered me his hand.

I looked at it and smiled. I laced our fingers together. Even though his hand was cool it sent warmth through the whole limb to my heart.

"I am wondering something." He said as we left the cave and started walking in a general direction. "Since you are now someone else will you stop being Evelyn?"

"Well I did tell you to call me Xira."

"I meant in personality."

"Oh you mean the personality of bitchiness, bitter, foulmouthed and criminal. Is that correct?"

He laughed. "Yes, that's the personality I mean. You are a princess and you should act as such."

"So I can't say things like shit, holy fuck, asshole, bitch, motherfucker..."

"I think you know every single curse there is and yes. Your parents like I said are very different."

"Good to know. I will try to refrain my mouth. I can't promise though that if I see Crez my inner beast will want to kill her."

"She didn't know."

"That doesn't matter. She wanted to kill me along with you brother. What the fuck is his problem?"

He raised a brow.

"I know, fuck should not be in my vocabulary."

"Unless you are telling me to fuck you. I like it then"

I rolled my eyes but giggled. "Anyway, your brother is just as evil as her."

"I agree. A lot has changed with him. I feel like I don't know who he is. He used to be kind. Remember?"

I did. When we were younger Link was always smiling, laughing and having fun with us. He was nothing like that yesterday. In his place was a ruthless bastard.

"I don't want to see him at the moment but we will have to later." He sighed. "I hope you are okay with that."

"I will be as long as you are by my side." I gave his hand a squeeze.

He led me further into a vast land. From afar I could see villages of huts. The further we went the villages got larger and then I saw it.

The corners of my mouth lifted and I couldn't help the smile. Home.

The large castle rose from the ground. It was made of the same material as the huts, brick and dirt. The tan color didn't stand out in the plains. The tallness did.

Villagers peeked from their window and doorways. I was probably a sight in my odd clothes compared to theirs.

They wore dark brown to light leather clothes like Zirk.

"Some were at the match yesterday. They know you are the princess and they know I am the sea prince."

"Do they approve?"

He smirked. "Some. We haven't always seen eye to eye except for mating matches."

"Of course."

The closer we got to the castle the more nervous I felt. The two guards that were at the front door got down on one knee and bowed their heads before letting us enter.

I couldn't believe that I would be treated as royalty now. It was crazy.

Zirk let go of my hand and put his arm around me instead. I welcomed the comfort of his body as he held me.

Before I could utter a word I heard noise at the top of the stairs. An older couple appeared and came down the steps.

I held my breath as I stared at them.

The man had short black hair, kind yellow eyes that crinkled at the corners. The woman, she had the raven curls that I had inherited. Her eyes also yellow and anxiously looking at me.

I pulled away from Zirk slowly and started walking towards them.

My heart filled with love and sadness. These were my parents. I had been wretched from them and suffered the lost of love.

My eyes filled with tears as we got closer. Soon we were standing in front of each other. Only a couple of feet away.

She was the first to throw her arms around me and embrace me.

The real tears began and I couldn't hold back. Both of them couldn't as my father too hugged us.

I could feel the love in their arms. It felt strange to me but I knew it was true and oh how I had needed it all those years on earth.

They stopped hugging me. My mother wiped the tears off my cheeks.

"You've grown up into a beautiful woman."

"I have your hair." I laughed through my tears. "I always hated my hair but now I love it because it's like yours."

"I thank you Zirk." My father turned his attention to my husband. "Thank you for finding her."

Zirk grinned. "It was nothing. She found me."

Okay if he was being technical then yes I had gone back and found him trying to get into the warden's office. I would never regret that decision.

So much had changed in the last few days. Too much.

"We have much to talk about." She gushed. "You must tell me all you have done. How your life has been these years. Everything."

I sighed. It was nothing good and I wasn't sure how I could sugar coat it for her.

"First we must find out who took her away from you." Zirk told us. "It is important that we find who is the traitor of this kingdom."

"I agree." My father nodded. He looked at me. "Do you remember when you were taken?"

"A little bit. I remember a ship and someone telling me it was a sort of game we were going to play. The door shut behind me." My brow furrowed in concentration. "I don't remember the journey. I just remember walking streets, seeing people and then one of them took me to the authorities. From there...it's not worth talking about. Maybe the voice, the man's voice I could remember."

"I will consult Crix. He is my right hand man and he will help me find the culprit."

I just wanted to forget everything and enjoy being with them.

"We must dress you appropiately for the festivities." My mother changed the subject.

"Festivities?" I asked confused.

"Yes. You are the returned princess and it shall be celebrated. There will also be the mating ceremony although I have understood that it is a little late." There was amusement in her eyes.

I blushed crimson. "I...um, yeah. A little too late."

We laughed except my father, he kind of glowered at Zirk, who in turn cleared his throat.

"We did get married on earth. So it was kind of like a mating ceremony before we did the deed." I tried to fix.

"You go on with your mother. I'll speak to your father about what we should do." Zirk suggested.

"I'll see you in a bit."

He gave me a nod.

I wanted to go and kiss him but thought that I wouldn't be able to let him go if I did. My mother took my hand and led me up the stairs.

I looked over my shoulder at my father. He had a content smile on his face. I couldn't wait to see him again as I hurried after my mother.
