Chapter 29

"No." That was Mason's answer. "I will not mate or marry my daughter to some unknown alien."

He along with Rak, Selene, Ror and the other council leaders around earth on the big screen were present for that particular meeting.

"I suggest you think this over. Humans will go extinct, earth will be partially destroyed and taken over by Garzuk. Is that what you want?" One of the council told him.

"Of course not. If need be we should be preparing for a war."

Selene watched them discuss other ways but as she saw it she had no choice. She absolutely hated Evelyn with every cell in her body.

Did that woman hate her that much?

She rubbed her forehead. They had been at this for hours. Her father's mind would not change but at the end of the day it was not up to him.

"I've had enough." She spoke up and stood from her chair. "I'm doing it. Tell them that."

"Selene." Her father called to her as she headed to the door. "You don't have to do this. We are rebels and you were right in us fighting harder."

"It would never have been enough." She told him over her shoulder before stepping out.

She wandered toward the elevator. She wanted to go outside. She wanted to leave and disappear.

Outside it was calm. There were a few families at the park. Their children ran around playing with each other.

She kept walking towards the exit of the lakie neighborhood. She would be strong. She would survive this.

She kept telling herself like a mantra. Repeating it as her only line of strength.

What would she do now? How soon until the alien she would marry and mate arrives? Will Zirk and Evelyn come with them? Probably.

Her heart clenched. What kind of alien was he? Was he the same as Zirk?

She ran a hand through her hair, not caring if it looked disheaveled or not. She wanted a drink. Actually she wanted more than that. She should drink herself to oblivion and forget everything that would happen.

So much was going to change. All for the worst in her opinion.

Catalina didn't know what was going on. Selene should call her. They were friends after all.

Mary was too and she wondered if she knew.

She kept walking the few blocks until she reached the same hotel she had been staying at. Her room seemed to be the only safe place at the moment.

There she could think of everything or simply lay down and sleep it all off.

Her phone rang. It was her father. She answered.

"Hey dad."

"I spoke to that alien king." Her father's tone was hard. "He will not back down. He is stubborn to punish his son this way."

Right, she was the punishment.

"They will be here in two days." His voice broke.

She tried not to cry and held her own. "Okay."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be."

"We should have tried harder. We still can. You don't have to do this Selene."

"I do. If I don't you know that they will kill us. I believe them. I know Chief Rak wouldn't lie to us or Ror. I know that they can't do anything. I can see it in their faces. I am not doing this for them though. I am doing this for us. For all the humans, the rebels. It's a sacrifice I am willing to make."

"I love you Selene."

"I love you too dad. I will be fine."

"They say you will live here on earth after a brief visit to Garzuk. The king will want to make sure that his son has mated to you."

"Then he will be in the council and you will live in the facility. I will be able to see you. I would not have expected any less than that."

"I know. I would also have made a huge argument about not seeing you. How is this suppose to take place?"

"You will sign the documents for your marriage at the facility. Then there is some ritual you perform with the alien and that is all."

"Alright. I'm tired and I should rest. I have things to take care off before my life changes completely. I'll see you then."

"Would you like to spend tomorrow with me? We'll do things you like to do. I will be leaving as soon as it's over as will you."

"I would love that. We should go hiking like when I was little." She wanted that special moment with her dad one last time before it would never happen again.

"I'll be prepared." He chuckled. It was flat. She could tell how hard he was trying not to make this like the end of the world when it pretty much was.

"I'll see you tomorrow. Bye."

She held the phone in her hands. Two days. She had two days to be a free woman. Then she would be off to some strange planet.

She would be back though and that was a relief.

Since she would spend all of tomorrow with her father she decided to call Catalina and tell her. Selene wanted her with her for the whole signing thing. She would need moral support and who better than another rebel as herself.

The idea was ridiculous.

A rebel and an alien.

"So she has to marry an alien?!" Mary's voice raised a few octaves.

"It will be fine." Ror tried to assure her.

They were having dinner and she had asked him where he had been and what had happened with Selene. He had then proceeded to explain everything since he had disappeared from the party.

She slammed her fist on the table. A few of the other aliens looked toward their table.

"This is not going to be fine. Selene hates aliens. She was just getting used to you and the lakies. Now we are back to square one. Do you know how hard that's going to be? It is going to be hell for her. I can't believe how evil that Evelyn is."

"You will have a chance to speak to her when she comes. I believe she will be escorting Prince Link here with Zirk."

"I am going to give her a piece of my mind."

"I'm sure. For the moment I would like you to calm down. It's not good for the baby."

She sighed but agreed. "I know I'm not that far along but I will calm down for the sake of our child. Oh, talking about that. Did you hear that Nadia went into labor?"

He shook his head. "I hadn't heard."

"Yeah, they're in the medical center right now. She wanted us to go home and only have Kat there. They would let us know when the baby's finally born. Who knew it could take so long?" She picked at her meat. "I hope it's a swift delivery for me. I'm not very good with pain."

Ror stared at her. He didn't want to get angry but he couldn't help but want to kill every single person that had hurt her.

"I won't think about that for now though. I will enjoy this to the fullest." She smiled at him, knowing exactly what he had been thinking. "We haven't thought of names. I want something short and cute. What do you think?"

"I would love whatever you agree with." He pulled her off the floating seat and sat her on his lap. He nuzzled her neck and growled demurely. "I would like to have a girl. Why don't we start with that."

"A girl? Really? Not a little boy?"

"No. If we have a boy then that's great. I would just like a little girl that looks like you."

She giggled and blushed. "Alright. We will start with girl names. How many letters should it have? I say no more than four."

"Do you want a human sounding name like most females prefer around here?"

"I think so."

They were both thoughtful for a moment.

"Ivy." She said.

"Jane." He added.

He paused. "I think I have the perfect one."

"What is it?"

"Joy." She repeated liking the feel of the name. "Joy."

He chuckled. "Do you like it?"

"I do but why that one?"

"Because you brought joy to my world."

Sometimes he could be the most beastly man out there and at times he could say the most corniest things. That's why she loved him. "You give me joy everyday as well. That's the name of our baby."

"What about for a boy?"

She shook her head. "I don't think we need to look for one. I am sure that our baby is going to be a girl and her name will be Joy."

He kissed her then and she put her arms around his neck bringing him closer. She started giggling when she remembered something.

Gently she pulled away and blushed up at him. "We're in the cafeteria." She whispered.

He laughed realizing the same thing. They were being stared at and some looked away guiltily.

"Let's go home."

He stood with her still in his arms and carried her to the elevator. She didn't mind one bit. Actually she didn't know if she would be able to walk after that heated kiss. Her legs felt like jello.

She looked out to the cafeteria and saw Rix looking at them with a mournful face. The elevator doors shut.

Rix sighed and looked back down at his now empty plate.

When would he have what they did?
