Chapter 5

I watched him talk on his watch. Apparently his people were going to come save him. They weren't sure to rely on someone like me. I told them I was probably the only one not interested in killing an alien.

That seemed to suffice.

"Help will arrive in a moment." He sat down on the floor. "Shall we entertain ourselves?"

"Doing what?" I leaned back on a wall.

"Tell me about yourself. I know your name, Evelyn."

"Yep, that's my name." I clicked my tongue.

"What's your last name?"

"I don't know but I go by Roberts like Barbie."

"Barbie?" He frowned.

"Yeah, this toy doll that everyone likes. Rather little girls do.

"How can you not have a real last name?"

I shrugged. "I don't know. I've never seen a birth certificate on my name. No one seemed to be able to find one. Every foster parent that adopted me told me the same thing that's on my file. I was found in a trash bin by some workers. Thank god, they heard me crying. Anyway, one of them called me Evelyn and that was that. Roberts came later on by one of the social workers, she thought it would fit me."

Why the hell was I telling this idiot my life? I scowled at that.

"How about we keep quiet from now on?" I glared at the floor.

"Your past hurts you."

"Wow you are a real Sherlock Holmes. Now be quiet."

"There's no need for you to be rude."

"I don't give a fuck if you find me rude or not. I just need quiet before I blab all my life to you." I refused to look at him but after he stayed silent I had to.

The storage closet was dim and his eyes were nearly too dark to be seen but I could see the white of them.

I rather felt the intensity of his look. The man didn't even blink.

He made me feel self conscious so I looked away and got something to entertain myself with. I started braiding the small strings on the mop.

After what seemed like ten minutes I could still feel his gaze.

"Fine you want to talk, then talk." I huffed.

"Well. You know my name is Zirk. I'm one of six zukoes on this planet. I come from royalty in Garzuk. I'm also a jerk."

I chuckled. "There was no need for you tell me that. I knew you were a jerk. I can smell them a mile away."

"You can?"

"It's an expression. Continue. Why are you a jerk?"

He smiled a little too creepy for my liking. "I'm a jerk for the images and thoughts I project to people. They are not enjoyed. I rifle thru their memories as well."

"Hmm, I can see why they don't like it. I certainly wouldn't like to remember certain things."

"It's the way of life. It is how I am."

"Soo..." I stopped braiding and looked up at him. "Can you project them to me?"

"Apparently not. I have been trying since you told me to be quiet."

There was another few minutes of silence. I was starting to get hungry but I would have to wait until we got out of here to eat.

I really hoped that everything would calm down outside and then we could go our separate ways. For some reason his presence made me nervous.

"Do you want to know what I want to project to you?" He broke the silence.

I didn't but there was nothing else to do and I had no idea how long we would have to be stuck in the closet. "Tell me."

"How about I show you?"

"How are you..." Before I could even finish the sentence he had pounced on me. Like literally.

I held my breath at the shock and stared into his dark eyes. His huge body covered what little light the lamp on the ceiling glowed.

I had great vision at night which I was thankful for in a moment like this.

My heart beat erratically at the nearness of his face. It was only a couple of inches from mine.

I didn't feel fear though. It was odd. I did feel a stirring within in. A feeling I hadn't had in years. It was awakening.

Suddently he was off of me and back to his side of the closet.

"Maybe we should stay quiet." He grumbled and looked away from me with a scowl.

I went back to the mop.

He was upset with himself. What was wrong with him? He had wanted to tease her, give a bit of a start like he did with the other human females.

It hadn't worked, not really.

He had given himself a start. Those light green eyes had penetrated his soul. He felt like they could reach deep within him and make him feel what he should not.

He could see the fast rising of her chest. He had affected her but not in the fear like teasing way he wanted.

It was something different.

What he wanted to project was an image of him taking her clothes off. That ugly orange jumper that did nothing for her in the good looks department.

Since he couldn't sent it through mind he was going to make it a reality.

Then he stopped when he was sufficiently near her. It would have been easily done had he not felt that strange sensation.

The sensation of his member wanting to escape the compression of his tight leather suit.

That had him backing off a thousand miles a minute. He needed to control himself. How he had lost it he didn't know. All he knew was that he couldn't do it anymore.

He had decided then that the less communication between them the better.

She was currently occupying herself with the mop. The seconds, minutes ticked by and then his communicator glowed with a call.

With a sigh of relief he answered Rak.

"Are you here?"

"Yes and there's a problem." The lakie did not sound happy.

"What kind of problem?"

"Well, the warden says everything went on lockdown. He had a secret entrance to his office that was not connected to the technology of the building. Meaning he was able to get out. The rest of the building isn't made that way. The only way to disarm everything is from the control room that does it."

"Okay. I don't yet see the problem. I know you have the means to blast the door."

"Yes, we do but we cannot go in attacking. We could kill these women."

"Chief Rak," he pinched the bridge of his nose, "most of these women are going to die here already. We could give them a swift death."

"Hey!" Evelyn yelled at him and glared. "Not all of them are evil."

"Do you not agree?"

"No." Rak answered.

"I cannot stay here. I am the prince of Garzuk if something happens to me war comes to earth and my father will not be as stupid as Krazr."

"I understand. We were hoping that you could somehow get to the room and open the way for us. We also have the blueprints which would give you a way of escape after you've done it."

"You want me and an inadequate human female to risk our lives because you don't want to risk the lives of convicts?"

"I am sorry Zirk but yes."

"I will think about it." Zirk hung up on him.

"You will think about it? How exactly?" Evelyn crossed her arms.

"With your help. Do you think we could make it there?"

"I don't know." She bit her lip and he tried not to let it cloud his mind. What would her lips taste like? Were they as soft as they looked?

"Well think." He snapped.

Her eyes narrowed at the rudeness of him. "I have a mind of taking you out there and feeding you to the wolves if you keep being ugly to me. Now shut up and let me think."

Her brow furrowed as she thought about his question.

"There might be a way but it will be risky and I don't know how long it will take us."

"What do you mean?"

"Dude, the control room is on the other side of this building. There are hundreds of crazy women out there who would willingly kill you. I don't guarantee your safety."

He knew that. Thankfully he did have a weapon. His mind. "I can hypnotize a few humans at a time."

"How many is a few?"

"Probably twenty females. Your minds are not that strong."

She arched a brow. "What does that mean?"

"Humans, human minds aren't as strong as aliens." He rolled his eyes. He didn't have to explain himself but whatever. "Do you think it's safe to emerge from here and get this on a roll?"

"I don't know. I feel like I've been here for ages but it could be because I have you as company." She gave him a sweet smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Let's wait a bit more. Tell me when your watch says it's after ten. Everyone should be asleep by then."

"It is a communicator not a watch. It does tell time and it is only seven."

"Great." She looked less than happy. "Well, I think I should get some rest if I'm going to be roaming around here like a cockroach for your sake."

She moved around things and made herself space. She rested her head on the mop.

"Can't believe I'm sleeping in here when I could be in my cot." She closed her eyes and sighed. "You should sleep too."

"I will." He watched her as she layed there.

She was tense and then it slowly left her. She was soon breathing evenly.

All he could do was stare at her. He could imagine that this would be how Xira would look if she was her age.

She would have been a beauty.

He rested his head back on the wall and closed his eyes. He would awake when the time was right.
