Chapter 9

I walked down to the kitchen. Big Mama was now there making preparations for a late lunch.

"I need to talk to you later." I told her.

She gave me a nod.

"Do you have anything fishy? Like from the sea?" I asked as I got a few pieces of fruit for me. It didn't matter how hungry I was but I did not trust the packaged meat.

"We have fish sticks I think and tuna fish."

"I'll take a can and some fish sticks."

"Do you want me to open the can for you?"

"Yes please."

"Now don't go attacking people with it." She winked at me.

I chuckled. "I won't."

She opened it with the can opener and handed it to me. Then she gave me a bag of frozen fish sticks. "That is an odd lunch."

"I know but I haven't eaten since yesterday. I might try to cook the fish sticks in the dryer too."

"I'll go looking for you after I'm done cleaning the kitchen."

"See you soon." I wandered off back to the laundry room.

For the most part I was ignored by the other women. I didn't talk to any of them before this so there was no reason to start conversation now.

They all looked calm as if taking over a prison wasn't a big deal anymore. Then again they probably didn't know that the outside was filled with aliens waiting to get in or that they even had one inside.

I opened the laundry room door and locked it behind me.

It was as how I had left it.

"I'm here."

I set the food down at the table while Zirk got out.

"We'll eat then fold the sheets. Big Mama is going to come by later and we'll talk to her then. I didn't tell her about you but I will when she gets here."

"Alright." He looked at what I brought.

"Something fishy and cold." I pushed the bag of fishsticks and canned tuna to him. I started peeling an orance for myself.

He made a face. "This is it?"

"Sorry your majesty but the kingdom is going through a difficult financial problem." I gave him a mocking sad look. "Please don't cut off my head."

His eyes half lidded into annoyance. "I certainly wouldn't cut off your pretty head."

I giggled. "What you would you do?"

"I'd feed you to the sharks." He smirked and opened the bag of fish sticks. They were hard and frozen. I wasn't entirely sure he would eat them but he did.

He chewed thoughtfully for a moment.

"I had my reservations but these are actually good." He said after finishing one.

"So...why something like that to eat?" I asked out of curiosity.

He swallowed and licked his lips. "I'm a sea creature."

I snorted. "I'm being serious. Why?"

"Me too. I'm a shifter alien. My whole planet is. We're divided into the sea clan and land clan. I am prince of the sea clan." He got another. "I turn into a sea creature so I eat what sea creatures do which is seafood."

"I don't believe you."

"Don't."

"Show me." I bit into a piece of my orange. It was sweet and tart against my tongue.

He shook his head. "I'll give you nightmares."

"I'm not a scaredy cat."

Something flashed in his eyes as if in sadness but it was gone in a blink of an eye. I most likely imagined it.

"Show me, unless you're the one afraid."

He laughed. "What would I be afraid of?"

"Of looking like a fool because you are clearly lying about turning into something." I smirked and turned my attention to the fruit in my hand. "I won't ever believe you until you show me."

"You'll regret it."

"I doubt it because it isn't real."

He gave a sigh in frustration. "Fine. You want to have nightmares for the rest of your life I'll do it."

I looked back at him as he set the bag of fishtsticks down.

"It will be brief because I need you to help me get out of here."

I made a motion with my hand to tell him to continue. I actually wanted to see him fail though.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath then opened them again. With fascination I watched as the black spread over the rest of his eye.

It ate up all the white until it left it glass like.

I held my breath as his nose took a more pointed look and his ears shrunk slightly. What looked like gills sprouted on either side of his neck.

He gave me a smile which looked sinister now with pointy teeth.

A shark. That what came to mind. He had said he would feed me to the sharks. He wasn't kidding because he was one. Only with flesh.

Heat flared inside of me at the pit of my belly. I was startled to find that it was desire. My body reacted to him as if he was the hottest man alive in this moment.

All I could do was stare at him as I tried to reason with the response I was having.

'Our mate.' That voice whispered. 'Our strong mate.'

Zirk's face contorted back to his normal self. He stared at me with his brow furrowed. "You're not afraid of me."

"I..." I couldn't utter any words. I was confused.

"Are you in shock?"

"I don't know." I licked my lips. "Maybe?"

He grabbed the bag of fish sticks and started eating again as he kept a close eye on me. I busied myself with finishing my orange.

We finished eating and threw our trash away. We folded all the sheets since there was nothing else to do.

I was still thinking about my reaction to him when there was a knock on the door.

"Who is it?" I called out.

"Big Mama."

"Hide until I tell her about you." I told Zirk. He quickly did what I said.

I took a deep breath and opened the door. Helen, aka Big Mama, looked around. "Nice thing you got going on around here."

"Thanks."

"What did you want to talk about?"

"Remember what we talked earlier, about a plan to get out of here and at the same time get this shut down?"

"Yes."

"What if we had someone else to help us?"

She frowned. "Who would help us?"

I clicked my tongue. "First of all, what do you think of the aliens?"

"I don't know. I've never met them in my life. I've been here for years. All I hear are stories from the girls that actually got to see them when they arrived. Don't really have a chance to know if they are good or bad."

"Okay. If we had one would you be open to working with it?"

"To get out of this joint? Yes."

"Good. Zirk." I let him know he could get out.

Helen stared at him with an open mouth as he appeared out of the bin. "What the..."

"Hell, yes, I know. He's an alien that I am helping hide since he got stuck out here with us instead of with the warden."

"I'm Zirk and we need your help to get out of here."

"Wow. You are big and handsome. Do you see how handsome he is?" She smiled and told me.

"Yeah, sure." I rolled my eyes. I had to agree that he was terribly good looking, even more so in his half shifted state. Which I should stop thinking about. "Now we have a plan."

We explained to her what we thought to do.

"It's risky but the girls trust me enough. Are you sure you can help reduce my sentence after all this?" Helen looked at Zirk warily.

"Yes." He assured.

"Fine. I'll do what I can. I'll get the girls to leave the control room and then I'll hightail it back here."

"Good. We'll take care of the rest and meet you here."

"When are we doing this?" She asked.

"Tonight. There will be less women roaming around and I will be able to control them if they are few." Zirk answered.

This could actually work. I prayed it would.

"Be prepared. Zirk informed me that they will be going forward with their plan tonight. As soon as those doors open we are in." Rak let his lakies and the police know. "Approach with caution. If they attack, stop them." That went to his men. They would not shoot them. The women would not be strong enough to fatally injure any of his men.

Ror waited to know what they should do.

"Cover the perimeter in case they try to escape. Detain them, don't kill."

"Got it." He nodded. They didn't want a blood bath.

"Zirk will be coming from the roof. He will have two females with him. He will be responsible for them." Rak clarified. They would deal with them once they were out.

Zirk requested that they should be rewarded for helping him. The human authorities didn't think they should but it wasn't up to them.

Rak walked over to Kit and Kat. "You two will help Zirk."

"Of course. We will have the ship ready up there."

"Great. This will work." He was optimistic, they all had to be. "Time to wait."

"Bambi, Mona. How are you girls?" Helen asked them as soon as she was through Block C door.

"Tired. Leti has us here like watch dogs. As if any of the women would be stupid enough to let any police in." The one they called Bambi told her. "I'm hungry too."

Helen clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Go eat. There's plenty of food in the kitchen. I'll stand watch for you."

"Big Mama you are a life saver. We'll be back before Leti comes to make sure we're here." Mona gave her a hug.

"When will that be?"

"She comes around five. Do you think you could stay watch so we can also take a nap?" She pouted.

Helen nodded. "Anything for my girls."

"Thank you. We'll see you in a few hours."

"There's pudding cups at the bottom compartment of the pantry. A sweet treat for you." Helen winked at them.

"We love you Big Mama." They told her and left to go to the kitchen.

They had already revised the plan and she knew sending them to the kitchen would work. They loved those pudding cups.

Ten minutes went by and then Evelyn, followed by Zirk came in. Helen stumbled a little feeling inmense sense of sleep. Suddenly it was gone.

"Sorry, I concentrated too much." Zirk told her.

He had told her his hypnotizing abilities. He had even rifled through her memories and thoughts until he was assured that she wouldn't betray them.

"You may go wait for us in the laundry room. The vent has been left slightly open. Get in and wait for us inside it. Don't head out alone. They expect us three to be together."

She gave him a nod. "Be careful." She gave Evelyn a quick hug and left them.

"Now what Sharko?" Evelyn had decided on giving him a nickname to his annoyance. She said something about it being a cartoon character.

"Control Room." He said simply.

They went inside and he looked at all the controls. It was easy to read what each one of them was for.

"We should do this first." He pushed a button. The sound of shutting cell doors rang around the place. "Now we drop the lock for the exterior doors." He did the switch. "Let's get the hell out of here."

He pushed her out of the door and they ran out to block B. Evelyn was fast but not fast enough. He heard the other women waking up and realizing what was happening.

He swiftly picked her up in his arms and ran faster. She held onto him without a word.

Women yelled at them as they passed. They made it to the laundry room and he dropped her. Evelyn landed on her feet and locked the laundry room.

The vent was open and that assured them that Helen had gone through.

Evelyn got in then he went behind her.

The vents were dark but he could see well enough.

"We're here." Evelyn told Helen. "Keep going straight. At the first intersection go up and we'll find the first division of vents. Take the left."

They took the instructions that Rak had given them through the communicator.

At last Helen said she felt something and pushed. It wouldn't budge so she started yelling through the vent. It was yanked away with Kit's help.

He helped her get out. Evelyn did it herself and Zirk followed suit.

Helen looked around her, amazed that she was actually outside. There was also the possibility that she would get less time. She knew it to be true.
