Girls today want everything. They want to be free and independent, they want love and protection, they want gender equality... I stop here with the list cause it would be too long to be exhaustive. The reason is every girl has a different dream. In the past they didn't have too many options, their life was limited to female roles by patriarchal society. The social classes were rigid and there were very few opportunities if none to study and work abroad. Hopefully these primitive times are long gone, at least in modern societies.

Jennifer, is a young independent adult living in New York. She decided she didn't need a man in her life, and would go on living with "Friends" in Manhattan. She didn't care about social convention and would break them without feeling any guilt. She was a modern and emancipated woman, and would talk to men freely. She had dated a "Rock Star" called Brad, but now she wanted to have time on her own. "Love Happens" when it happens, there's no need to rush for it. Life is flowing freely, "Just Go with It". Jennifer is so easy-going, and she gets along so well with her roomies, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross, that starting a family is the last thing on her mind. She had no "Friends with Money" but she was happy cause they had a good time together. She was "The Good Girl" of the bunch, the girl next door. She has had "Horrible Bosses" in the past and changed work quite a few time, but she didn't mind too much as long as she had support from her friends at home.

At the "Office Christmas Party" that year, "Bruce Almighty" a golden boy where she worked laid his eyes on her. He was in charged of the "Management" Department and for him she was a "Picture Perfect",... I mean a perfect picture.

"She's the One". "She is the Object of My Affection."

Said Bruce the first time he saw her. The "Rumor Has it" as everybody at the office talked about his crush on Jennifer. But she was not interested, she was just "Waiting for Woody"... It was a "Dream for an Insomniac" as he got totally obsessed with her. When she had some "Cake" during the break, he would sit at her table and look at her. But since he had experienced "The Break-up" of the year with his former girlfriend who had left him for his best friend, he was very careful. On "Mother's Day" he asked her out for a date, and she accepted. They had a dinner out and she told him they could be good friends for now. "She's Funny That Way", as a single woman. Romance is too serious, she doesn't want to commit herself. She just wants to make her own decisions and do whatever she wants by herself, dedicate her time and energy for personal growth and fulfillment.

If modern girls have different lives, they do share some common traits. They are progressive and independent. Basically they don't need a man on their side, and having a family might not be their priority. Here are the opinions and views of Jennifer, who has the typical modern girls' mentality:

"We are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child. We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies. That decision is ours and ours alone,"

She wants to be on her own. She doesn't want to be told what to do, nor how she should look like, talk, behave, dress, walk,... everything that has to do with personal freedom. She wants to be an individual and wants to be respected for what she is and what she does.

"Most of us fall in love with someone's persona and spend the next three to five years discovering who that person really is."

She likes to date rock stars, and they all had a persona that had nothing to do with their real personality. She should just date a regular guy who doesn't have anything to hide. But the drill and excitement is too important to her in romance. So, if she doesn't date a rock star, she prefers to remain single.

"Beauty is inner confidence. Peace. Kindness. Honesty. A life well-lived. Taking on challenges and not feeling shame for things that haven't gone the way you felt they should have."

Jennifer was actually smarter as a single woman than part of a love relationship. Who said that love make you more stupid that you are? After some times of reflection on her own, she got to these conclusion. She had become a very insightful and meditative person. It's easier to achieve it when you don't have to worry about your husband and your kids all day long.

"You can undo a lot of things. If you're not happy, you can become happy. Happiness is a choice."

It's not a fatality, and God has nothing to do with the way you feel. Happiness is an attitude, and she wants people to take full responsibility of their own happiness. So, with Jennifer, looking for excuses is a waste of time, and it will only make you feel worse.

"So, goodnight Jennifer. There are no wrong lifestyles, only different lifestyles. There's nothing wrong with not starting a family. There's only something wrong if you feel bad about your life choices."
