Discombobulated

Discombobulated – am I awake or still asleep,

this disconnected feeling is enough to make me weep.

Reality is blurring and becoming partly dream

where things are not quite simple, are not quite how they seem.

The room that I am waking in, it’s surely not my own

and it wasn’t an alarm clock but the ringing of a phone --

a phone I’ve never seen before, I wish it would not ring

because alarm bells that live in my head, they begin to sing.

The walls are undulating, the room it starts to spin;

it seems that in some kind of hell, I’ve just woken in.

I’ll stumble to the bathroom and there I get a shock,

the face that’s in the mirror – mine, it’s really not;

I’ve woken as somebody else – that seems to be the case

a different room, a different phone, a very different face.

I’ll have to crawl back to the bed, lie down and shut my eyes,

and wait for this fictitious scene to go, complete with all the lies.

Next moment when I wake I find that things are as they should be;

I’m really not that keen on the discombobulated me!
