Broken Limbs

Strong and stubborn for a hundred years,

when a loud bump in the night brings us tears.

A storm blew hard during the night,

breaking limbs with all its might.

March winds and a sleepless night,

out our window blue and red flashing lights.

Strong and stubborn for a hundred years,

now has come the worst of our fears.

Old memories come and must be told,

of when we were young and very bold.

Strong and stubborn for a hundred years,

then a sudden call for help reaches our ears.

Lying alone, waiting, hurting and still,

something and someone just took a spill.

Strong and stubborn for a hundred years,

now waiting for five strong volunteers.

Limbs in the yard can be thrown to the side,

a mother’s broken hip, we cannot hide.

Strong and stubborn for a hundred years,

now in the hands of the medical engineers.

We can only wait and pray for a doctors skill,

knowing that whatever happens will be God’s will.

Strong and stubborn for a hundred years,

Soon to run and walk amongst her peers.
