Chapter 1

It was Monday evening, and Rebecca Williams was on her way home from University. She was studying law, because it was her dream to become a lawyer ever since she was 15. She was walking past a beautiful lake, that was in the park, of New York. Rebecca had moved to New York recently, so she didn’t know a lot of people. She had a few friends, but she was mostly focusing on her studies, and didn’t have time for things like that.

She loved taking a calm, relaxing walk after her day at the University. One of her friends Lucy Brown, she was a student at a college, but her and Rebecca met at the University, where Rebecca was accepted, but Lucy wasn’t. Just because Lucy wasn’t accepted to a University, didn’t mean that Rebecca and Lucy couldn’t be friends. They saw each other from time to time, but not very often. But then, they started seeing each other more.

Rebecca went to the park, and sat on a bench in front of the pond. She sat quietly on the bench, looking at the ducks that quietly swam in the lake. She sat on the bench for a while, and then sighed while smiling, and went back home.

Rebecca lived in a small flat, because she didn’t need much space, considering that she lived alone. Rebecca arrived home, and was searching for keys in her bag, she found the keys, and opened the door. First she went inside, turned around and put the hey in the keyhole, and locked the door.

As she turned a sight immediately caught her attention, which was a dead man  on the floor.  ‘’ Oh my god!’’ Rebecca exclaimed. Her voice was soft, and caring. Although in that moment, she sounded scared.

Her brown hair, up to her shoulders, was put up in  ponytail, and in her bright green eyes, you could see fear. Her eyes were as green as the summer grass. She was so young, and looked so innocent, and she was. She was quite tall. Her long thin legs were beginning to shake as she the horrible sight caught her eye.

She ran up to the man laying on the floor. ‘’ What the hell? What is that man doing in my flat?’’ She asked herself.  Rebecca saw the blood on the back of the man’s head, she checked the man’s pulse, by putting her two fingers on the man’s neck.

There was no pulse. Rebecca realized that the man was dead. After she realized that he was dead, she slowly stepped back from him, she looked terrified. ‘’This can’t be happening, oh my god!’’ Rebecca cried. She started crying, and in despair, got her phone out of her bag. Rebecca’s hands were shaking.

She was so confused, and so nervous, that she didn’t know what to do, so she immediately, without thinking called Lucy. She didn’t call the police, because she needed to share this with someone she knew, and Lucy was practically the only real friend she had in New York. Rebecca found Lucy’s contact, pressed call, and prayed for Lucy to answer.

Lucy answered the phone.’’ Hi Rebecca.’’ Rebecca felt so relieved, when she heard Lucy’s voice on the phone.’’ Lucy, I- I there’s a, he’s - there’s blood, on his - I tried to help, but he’s – I ‘’ Rebecca hesitated, she couldn’t speak clearly. Just a half an hour ago, she was having a nice, relaxing, calm walk, and the next second, she enters her own home and sees a dead man on the floor.

‘’ Oh! A dead man? Heh, that sure doesn’t happen every day right? ‘’ Lucy sounded very weird and nervous to Rebecca on the phone. ‘’ What?! You’re not shocked? Is this normal here in New York, to find dead people on the floor in your house?’’ Rebecca sounded shocked by Lucy’s response to the shocking news that Rebecca just told her about. She  was crying. ‘’ Look, please just come to my house now! I’ll call the police while you’re on your way!’’ Rebecca said. ‘’ Wait! No! Do not call the police!’’ Lucy exclaimed on the phone.

‘’ What? What do you mean don’t call the police, of course I’ll call the police!! There’s a dead man on the floor here!’’ Rebecca was crying desperately. ‘’ Look, I’ll just come over to your flat ok? I’m on my way!’’ Lucy said. She hung up the phone.

Rebecca put her phone in her bag. She didn’t know what to do, weather to sit down, or stay standing.

After about ten minutes, Lucy arrived at Rebecca’s house. Lucy knocked on the door. Rebecca opened the door. ‘’ Why are you even knocking? Come in!’’ Rebecca exclaimed.

A girl, with long blonde hair, and deep blue eyes was standing on Rebecca’s doormat. As soon as Lucy saw the man, a tear rolled down her cheek, but she quickly wiped it off.

In her eyes, you couldn’t see fear, you couldn’t see anything. They were as empty as a blank space. Her cheeks were rose red. Her legs were a little shorter than Rebecca’s but with those legs, she could get any guy to a agree with her.

‘’ I see, that’s a dead man right there!’’ Lucy said uncomfortably, placing her fingers on her lips.

‘’ Yes, I see that! Now, why didn’t you want me to call the police?’’ Rebecca sniffed. ‘’ Why are you acting so strange anyways? You don’t look surprised, you don’t know anything about this, do you?’’ Rebecca asked Lucy. She was still crying.

‘’ Ahh….’’ Lucy hesitated. She looked over at the dead man. ‘’ I…..’’ Lucy didn’t know what to say. ‘’ Lucy! Tell me!’’ Rebecca started crying again.’’  I killed him.’’ Lucy said.
