I attended a poetry evening. We had to wait for the doors to open. We stood there, a real mix of people. I thought this in itself could be a poem.

Waiting in the queue

With the loud snobs

And the shuffling misfits

For the poetry reading.

There are those here

So they can tell their friends

Of the night of poetry

And others like me who

Have told mates they're

Having a pint with a friend

And a guy who looks like Walt Whitman.
