Dominoes

The domino has fallen but it’s still not on the ground,

the others are still holding firm, their positions far from sound;

any kind of rumbling that brings about a shake

will cause the devastation of a fully formed earthquake.

Any kind of tempest, or storm, or even gale

will set it all in motion, the commencement of a fail

where one by one they wobble, pressing down upon each other,

a collapsing of such an extent, things might not then recover.

Will we get to survive the bursting of this idealistic bubble

or be left to crawl our own way out from underneath the rubble

of the crumbled up debris left from failed and shattered dreams

that have turned and twisted into knots where nothing’s as it seems?

The dominoes are still upright but for how long will they remain,

and if they fall entirely will things ever become sane

or will insanity just swallow us in a society gone to grief,

this total insecurity -- it is defying my belief.

It’s just like a game of dominoes where they have been stacked on end

where one will push their neighbour and to the ground each other send.
