Spitting Nails

I’m watching you through narrowed eyes,

don’t think I can’t see past your disguise;

you act as though you are one to trust

while waiting with that knife to thrust.

If I lose attention, turn my back,

you’ll be ready to make an attack;

I’m ever watchful, on high alert,

only too aware I could get hurt.

You’ll joke around, pretend to be

someone who does care for me

but the truth is very far from that,

I know from all the threats you’ve spat.

I should go now before it’s too late,

I know you’re eaten up by hate.

But here I am, I’ll stand my ground,

for there is something I have found;

what I’ll do if all else fails

is look towards you, spitting nails.
