The Past's Past

?? ?? ?? ?? ?????

“What is this?” yelled my drunken father. I shrunk down to my knees, cowering away from my furious father; but i was too slow, he grabbed my throat and hauled me onto the wall. “I said, what is this?” he hissed in my ear.

My report card fell out of his hands and onto the heap of wooden boards that we call a floor.

“My...My report card.” i choked out, grasping and clawing at my father's hands around my throat, trying to get them off so i could breath.

“What?” he roared. “This is your report card?” i nodded weakly. “Well,” he began, getting closer to me. “Why’d you hide it?” i only gave my response by clawing at his hands. He loosened his grip and got even closer, “Answer me, you dingbat!” he yelled.

“I…” i hesitated before going on, just to get a deep breath, “I failed a few classes and i didn’t want you to see. I just thought if i hid it then you wouldn’t notice it wasn’t with you…” i said swiftly, at home i’m known for rambling, i guess it just always helped me explain things into detail.

He stood over me, his eyes focused on mine. he didn’t speak until a minute of silence approached. “Dumb kid…” he said slowly. He repeated it again but louder, he did it once more before i took a run for it. Too slow, he grabbed me by the back of my shirt and threw me to the ground. I let out a cry before he toppled me over splintered me with punches.

He kicked me several times before eventually exiting with a heavy sigh to the door. He left it open and before i blacked out, i heard his footsteps hit the pavement and across the road, probably to get a cigarette or some beer. Instead of getting me help.
