Repeat

Gaze at the vacuum and imagine

The scene recreating itself

You’re the scriptwriter, producer, cast, director and star

But the audience does not laugh

Nor gape in horror

Nor shed a bloody tear

Nor show any emotion at all

As if they’re not there

Repeat

It’s time for a rewrite

But the scripts all end up the same

The flimcrew simply does not change

Nor do the results

Repeat

It’s time for a crazy stunt

More action

More tears

More blood

But more of what?

Repeat

Something new will enter the scene

Unwelcome, or even mean

Why is when the lights dim

We claim that’s the best we’ve ever been?
