The Rains

There was a sea that was moving in the air freshly as it appeared in the morning, with each breath.
There was a grit under his nails.  He made his early morning rounds, collecting enough cigarettes from the parcel containers in front of the stores to garnish a fresh rolling paper later from the recycled cigarette ends.  He cried thinking of the heavier can!  His life what had it come to, oh the dirt oh the gravel.  Praise for his efforts, praise for his work keeping the streets so clean.  If only they knew.
People would often pass by and suggest briefly that he was in fact all that he could be feared.
He would play games with the children when he could, that ask me a question game, he called it quiz bowl.  Always sticking to astronomy his strongest point, he could in fact name all of the planets of the solar system.  And they would walk by.
