The young warriors lay in the battlefield,

This is where they rest,

Their bodies forgotten yet their soul remains

In a flower upon your chest.

They gave their lives for the greater good,

Yet causing lingering heartache,

Everything they did for us,

Symbolised by a red keepsake.

The hellish pain and anguish they took,

Fighting for tomorrow,

And in return one day of remembrance,

With a plant of grief and sorrow.

Their tired bodies and souls,

The Thiepval soil consume,

With each calamitous rifle fire,

Another poppy will bloom.

Don’t you think we owe more to them?

Once imprisoned in the Somme,

We should express our respect and gratitude,

Even if they are gone,

No matter if no name nor body,

We must repay this debt,

We wear this poppy to remember their sacrifice,

And… ‘Lest we forget.’
