What will happen to me from now on?

After some time, I stopped thinking about that.

Maybe I forgot… forgot how to think at all.

My eyes opened lazily in the early morning sunlight that was filtering into my room through the translucent curtains. This scene has been forever burned into my mind by now, the pale ceiling as the faint sunlight stretched thinly across it, the dark corners of the room that failed to be touched by the light from the window, and my mostly disorganized room that was cluttered heavily with my belongings. Stuff toys, a huge and extremely soft pillow, and obviously some essential furnishings. It was almost like I was reliving the same day over and over again, a never ending loop. However, the only thing that disapproved of that thought was the strange tablet that I had clutched closely to my chest before I went to sleep every night.

I quickly sat up in bed and rapidly tapped the dark but glossy looking screen twice. The tablet immediately sprang to life and displayed the various neatly laid out icons on the home screen.

I glossed over the other icons and went straight to one icon in particular, the one labeled “Messages”

[No messages in 2539 days]

Rin: “Sigh…”

I turned the tablet off again and laid back down in bed, clutching it close to my chest as I stared out the window. It has been like this since day one, back when I had first awoken in this room with the strange tablet by my side. I used to remember the reason as to why I checked my messages everyday, but now, that reason has long since been lost to the past, as was my full name. However, I still check on my messages everyday, hoping that one day, that reason will come back to me.

As I continued staring out the window, the morning sun had dimmed back into a slightly storm grey-ish colour.

Rin: “Ah, there it is…”

Just as I was done speaking, the curtains and walls around me began falling apart and breaking into tiny little squares that fluttered off, revealing the smooth glass walls underneath it. The fuzzy warm feeling room was now quickly transforming into a plainly colored prison. One in which I absolutely hated being in. I laid down on my bed lifelessly as the room began to take shape. And after the last bits of my previous room had fluttered off the ceiling, I grabbed the tablet next to me and slumped down onto the gigantic pillow that lay next to my bed. After waking my tablet again, I pressed the “Draw” icon that sat right in the middle of the home screen and was taken to a blank white canvas. The only thing missing now was my stylus to draw on the tablet, which was resolved with a quick press of a button that spawned in my floating stylus above the tablet's surface. I swiped the floating stylus and held it to my chin.

Rin: “What should I draw this time? Hmm…”

After mulling it over for a bit, I was struck with an epiphany and immediately began drawing on the blank canvas with my special stylus.

Rin: “One tall rock pillar… Rocky terrain to match the pillar… Some boulders here and there… Done!”

As soon as I finished my drawing, the empty world around me became swamped with tiny little squares that began building and recreating my drawing, injecting color back into the grey monotone prison that was the empty void I was living in. The world was transforming around me, boulders were being created, clouds above me were being filled in amidst the beautiful blue sky even the huge pillar of rock I had drawn before was also quickly taking shape, rising higher and higher until it finally towered over my little box. I had to tilt my head all the way back just to look up at the pillar from my bed. The tip of the pillar was just barely blocking the sun, allowing some of the light rays to slip through and reach my little cube. I reverted my gaze back to my rocky surroundings and noticed something was a little… off… Like it was missing something…

Rin: “Gasp! I know!”

I looked back down at my tablet and hit the “Clear all” button, causing the world around me to be almost instantly wiped out, bringing me back to the grey monotone prison. It didn't stay long however, as with a quick few strokes of my stylus, the empty void around me began to change once again. I watched, with my belly on my bed, as the world began exploding in a healthy strong shade of green. Grass patches and trees sprouted all around me, tall rocky ridges began shooting out of the ground behind the tree lines and continued climbing until they were almost ten times the height of the trees themselves. As soon as the ridges were at their maximum height, a torrent of water came bursting out the top of it, creating an amazing waterfall that quickly turned into a lake at the bottom of the rocky cliffs. Though the waterfall was beautiful to look at, I found it annoying that a tree just happened to be in the way of my amazing view.

Rin: “Dang it… I'll just move this here…”

I grabbed the tree on my canvas and moved it off to the side. Which was recreated in my world too, as the tree was ripped straight out of the ground and placed back into it just a little off to the side, giving me an unobstructed view of the waterfall I had created. The torrent of water looked just like falling snow as it turned into a mist just before hitting the ground below it. I reached my hand out and leaned it against the wall, covering the entire waterfall with my palm.

Rin: “If only I could actually go there…”

I was stuck inside this glass prison of mine. Trapped within the same four walls day after day after day. Constantly wishing that for just once in my seven years of being here, that I could get out there and experience the world for myself instead of looking at it behind a glass wall all the time. I want to feel the water hitting gently against my skin. I want to feel the wind tossing my hair about, I want to feel the sun’s warmth on my back… But I can't… And I never will… Because nothing changes anymore… The world which only belongs to me, continues on, each and every day... Unchanging...
