How the distance between changes through thought and consideration

Measuring the distance as I made my way, I took the three mile walk looking just ahead.

Even though the map I used to figure out how to get there showed three miles through one and a

quarter inches instead.

While I was walking it suddenly became much longer and the three miles seemed like a hundred.

'Must be my legs are shorter than most to have it be so.'

And when I considered the thought along the way, the three mile walk became shorter,

and now to me it seemed more like fifty.

Soon I recognized the crossroad of distraction, the one of turning left or right,

instead of going straight forward to home.

How I hate those spaces and places of temptation and consideration of some place better that

isn't. So I stopped for a time, only to feel the truth of the moment, then I made my way again

as the sun began to set, knowing in my heart that I would one day find the doorstep of my

destination.
