Reinventing

I’m thinking of reinventing myself with a far more tailored look,

one with lots of hangers and clothes coming from a hook;

no more hoodies that are over-sized, sweat pants just be gone,

no more boots and sneakers, I’ll go for shoes that should be shone.

I’ll give up all my tee shirts, replace them with a blouse,

and always look all dressed up when I do leave my house.

I’ll chuck out all my tatty clothes just so I can look the part

of someone who’s responsible, of someone that is smart.

I’ll go to the hair salon, get my hair trimmed into a style,

say goodbye to my feather cut that I’ve been doing for a while.

I’ll spend a fortune on some make-up, and buy some special cream;

I’ll be looking just like someone else, someone you’ve never seen.

All this will be performed in some kind of effort to impress,

to leave behind the real me you see as such a mess.

To fit in with all the locals, I’ll need to work so hard --

but, you see I’d rather write and work out in the yard.

I really can’t be bothered – what the hell, I’ll just be me;

And if people do not like it, at least they’re seeing me!
