A Crime Of Hate

Waiting at a bus stop on a Friday night, you and a couple of friends;

such a shame you could not have known how it was about to end.

For then you could have answered with some lie and not the truth

and maybe escaped that savagery -- but I really have no proof.

I guess they were well tanked up and were looking for some ‘fun’,

and a twist of time and circumstance set you up to be the one

that they would take their frustrations out on, in a beating of pure hate --

how really cowardly were they, as you were three and they were eight.

Your two friends made a run for it, they made good their own escape

but you found yourself just trapped there, your fleeing was too late.

A vicious attack was made on you, they made a target of your head:

what happened, did they run away believing you were dead?

And just what crime did they convict you of, what led to this attack?

The country you were fleeing from – they wanted you forced back.

Intolerance is on the rise, hate is a very strong emotion

which kind of takes some over as soon as they just get the notion

that you are taking from them, that you’re not entitled to a life

away from the home that you have fled to get away from strife.

You came in search of sanctuary but despising hatred is what you got

for the whole world is now at boiling point from the political melting pot.
