Tell me I'm a girl when I can't even look at myself as I shower
Tell me I'm a girl when I cry so hard that I make my head pound
Tell me I'm a girl when I scratch at my arms because I want it all off off off
Tell me I'm a girl when I'm waiting for a train and it seems so tempting to take those few steps forward
Tell me I'm a girl when pull at my hair hoping it'll go and stop bothering me with every long strand
Tell me I'm a girl when I have to turn all the mirrors away because I can't bear to look at my own face
Tell me I'm a girl when I have to cover every inch of skin because it's all wrong
Tell me I'm a girl when I hesitate over my own name
Tell me I'm a girl when I rock myself to sleep, sobs shaking my body
Tell me I'm a girl when I slice the blade over my skin, because it might hurt less
Tell me I'm a girl when I want to stab my own eyes out with every "she that's uttered in reference to me
Tell me I'm a girl when I press and claw at my own chest because it's so unnecessary
Tell me I'm a girl when arguing for my identity has become a regular occurrence
Tell me I'm a girl when I'm curled up in pain, bleeding for the chance at motherhood that I've never wanted
Tell me I'm a girl when I cut off all my hair, bind my chest, pass as a guy and smile.
