A shrill of sudden chill befalls me
I feel in a bind of momentous confound
Like an eerie call from where I can’t see
Cajoling and persuading sadness abound
Reaching deep into my soul it will be
Much as the echoes of a restless hound

Things I’ve said and done come a calling
Never did I dream this comes to pass
Far and wide the feeling is so appalling
Just like green no more is all the grass
Turning brown moribund and fast drying
Resembling more like a frail withering mass

The brilliance of the eyes turns dull
And the mind subdued akin to darkness
Sorrows unravel with regrets, I just mull
A haunting cry bemoans for softness
Like a stranded ship with a broken hull
Adrift aimlessly and floating loveless

My passion weans and my flame abated
Like a candle’s wick fleetingly diminished
My mind so distant and profoundly gated
As my warming fire about to be extinguished
It all seems somewhat overly perforated
But so real are all these, I’m finished

Standing alone in the grey wintery night
Like a barren tree with no cause to fight
Fearful and destitute like a fallen brethren
Feeling so distant and getting more frightened
From afar I could hear a forbidding call
Telling me nothingness shall be my all
