Ruled By Red And Black

I can see the redness rising like some kind of bloodied mist

and soon it’s gonna pull you down, you never can resist --

so quick are you to anger as the rage roams through your head,

all the signs and symptoms are things I’ve come to dread.

The red will take you over and anger takes control

there’s no one who can stop it now, it has to take it’s toll.

Like steam the redness pours right out, scalding whatever’s in its path

but you can’t even see what you are doing as you maniacally laugh.

It roils and boils around you until its course has run

and only then you realize exactly what you’ve done.

And then there comes the blackness when you know a bit too late

that you have lashed out uncontrollably with so much of your hate.

It creeps up and it covers you in a darkness so severe

you will not even notice if you, I then do near.

It wraps itself around you like a blackened blanket shroud

and then you will just curse yourself in a voice that grows so loud.

The blackness might get good and deep but it won’t hold you for long,

it will be like none of this has happened once the red and black are gone.
