Nowadays,

Few go to the beach to skip a stone.

Many still walk the shores, play in the water,

But the art of a rock – not thicker than her palm and not thinner than her hair –

Slapping the water like it’s hot,

Running to the horizon,

Stretching for another step,

Is rare.

Still, I found myself scanning the coast

Because not just any stone is good enough.

And just when I thought I found the perfect one,

Skip

Skip

Skip

Skip

Sink.

 

And I think I know why no one skips stones anymore.
