Nevada USA. Las Vegas. March 2nd 2017. It was a day like any other day doing the daily routine, waking up to the alarm set to a very odd early time. My alarm was set for 6:47am but it wasn’t the alarm I’d usually awake to, it was just something to half wake me up so I don’t feel as shit as I’d usually do when I get up, this alarm was set to go off at 7:00am. Once I had woken up from my two alarms I’d put on my dressing gown and go down the stairs and have the usual bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice to wash it down. When I sat down with my breakfast at my kitchen table I turned on my small TV that was in my kitchen, which I didn’t usually tend to do but that day I felt like knowing what was going on around the world but like all the very few times I watched the news there wasn’t very much to see, it was just the usual traffic and weather reports with a bit of politics, which all these subjects meant nothing to me because I live in a city of gambling so of course there’s going to be some traffic somewhere, I live in Nevada which is a desert so the weather doesn’t change as much unless there is a sand storm and I just have no interest in politics but there was one report that caught my attention, it was about a disease spreading  but not one of those diseases in a foreign country that’s never going to get over to our country, this disease was a local disease and when I say local I mean local. The disease had originally started spreading during the 1960’s and would infect anyone working around radiation, which is why it was common in Nevada because we have nuclear test sites around here so a lot of people would get infected in that area but the disease stop after it was controlled by other personnel. The whole news section was pretty much describing an CDC situation that happened years ago, then came back again but is still apparently under control and there is no need to panic so then after the news I finished my breakfast, placed my bowl next to the sink and went up the stairs. It was now 7:28am and I opened my cupboard to get my work uniform. I worked at the Lucky 7 Casino, I worked at the front desk, my job was to take their valuables to some safes and then return it to them before they leave, I didn’t love or hate the job because I wouldn’t say I enjoyed doing it but it had good enough payment for me to survive. So, after I got my uniform on – Which was a black and white suit with a red bow tie - I brushed my teeth and went down the stairs picked up my car keys, walked outside then locked the door and got into my car and drove down the road past many apartments and small businesses to get to my work. I eventually pulled over to the front of my work with 5 mins to spare, even though on the way there I got stuck in a lot of traffic because of about seven emergency service vehicles passing with their sirens blaring. Which that day was the most active I had ever seen them in my life. I shrug it off for being something like a car crash along the highway that hopefully wasn’t very serious. But when I got to the front desk most the employees were all grouped together watching the TV just above the front desk, they were watching the news, but it wasn’t anything about a car crash. it was showing videos of ambulances and some dead bodies with white covers over them getting pushed into the ambulances on a hospital bed but there was also agents from the CDC with their hazmat suits on and some police officers with their weapons drawn and ready to fire but just before we could finish seeing what was actually happening the boss came up behind us and changed the channel to the default Lucky 7 channel and then got all our attentions and told us to all get to our job positons because the casino is about to open. When I got to my desk I stood there for thirty seconds then the manager walked over to the doors, unlocked them and opened them, it did take about ten minutes before anyone came in but when they came in it was business as usual, just doing the regular things of taking peoples belongings- Which are mostly weapons like small hand guns because there is a lot of muggers around the housing area of Vegas-  I’d then put the belongings into an individual safe which is assigned to each customer who is given a key with their number on it. Throughout the day until about 1:00pm business seemed to be going as usual, with the same frequent everyday customers coming in but there was one man that came in who looked about 45 years old but seemed very ill, I asked if he was ok and he said he was and handed his stuff over the desk then I picked it up and put it in a safe and I gave him his key. The customer’s name was Billy, I made sure I kept my eye on him until the rest of my shift was over, Billy was acting rather strange all day, it was obvious that he was sick but an unusual kind of sickness, he was acting very slow and mindless, he pretty much just sat at one of the slot machines just staring at it with his arms drooped down, eyes barley open, jaw very low and making a groaning sound. I began to become really concerned but I couldn’t leave the front desk, so I ask the janitor who just happened to be walking past to go check on Billy. The Janitor tapped on Billy’s shoulder but he didn’t answer, the janitor kept tapping him and saying his name but he still wouldn’t answer or show any sign of awareness to someone trying to get his attention. It wasn’t until Billy began to growl then pushed the janitor down and jumped on top of him and began trying to bite him but the janitor was able to keep a fair distance away from Billy’s teeth before the security guard came over to pull Billy off the janitor and grab him by the shirt and throw him out the casino. The security guard threatened to use his baton on Billy if he comes back to the casino.

After we all went back to our places of work and everything had calmed down I began to see a silhouette of a man getting closer and closer to the frosted glass, he was walking very slump like a drunk person, which I thought it was especially when he walked up to the glass and just started slapping his hand on it and dropping his arms after every slap. I thought he’d leave after a while but the security guard got pissed off really quickly so he opened the door and the man walked slowly towards the door dragging his feet and before our thoughts could process the man had thrown himself on top of the security guard causing the guard to drop his weapon, the man was Billy, he had come back again, the guard was attempting to reach his weapon but he couldn’t because if he let go Billy would have is teeth dug into the side of the guards face in a second, so I jump over the desk and grab the baton and with one big upper cute motion with my arm I whack Billy in the face breaking his nose and sending him flying off the security guard. Suddenly all the TV’s around the casino all broadcast a news report labelled “BREAKING NEWS! IMPORTANT MESSAGE!”. Everyone’s attention is drawn to the TV’s, the news reporter talks about the virus become a city wide out break and that the whole city of Las Vegas is under quarantine and everyone is advised to stay inside the building that they are in and try and lock or barricade the doors to prevent any outsiders from getting in and if anyone is INFECTED or has been bitten by an infected person they should be locked inside an isolated place away from anyone else to prevent spread of infection and if the situation necessary the infected are killed by removing the head or destroying the brain. And if you do try to leave the city without special permission you will be shot on site to prevent the infection from spreading any further.

As soon as the news report finished Billy got up and began growling again charging towards me and the security guard, the security guard then grabs the baton from my and smacks Billy across the head causing him to collapse to the ground and die. After this occurring the manager then calls everyone in the casino to meet him at the front desk. Once everyone has come to the meet up point (Which there were only 12 people at the Casino including me) the manager explains how we all need to stay in the casino where it is safe until help arrives and if we see anything unusual we should report it and every single person in here will all be equipped with a weapon which is only allowed to be used in self defence against the infected. We all go to the security room where we are all given on pistol and a baton. The Security guards name was Kevin, we decided that since we pretty much started it together by both killing Billy we guessed we may as well stick together until the whole thing blows over. We all worked together for about 3 hrs barricading all the doors and windows (even though the manager had locked them but it was just for extra protection). It was a bit for a while because for about 2 hours all you could hear from outside was lots of screaming, growling and shooting then it just fell silent which then we all knew that’s when a lot of people had died in very horrifying ways. It was only every so often an Infected would come to a window or door and tap on it for a while then lose interest but I guess sitting there all that time came as an advantage because we could sit and watch how all the Infected were acting, we could learn how to identify or even outsmart them (which wouldn’t in fact be that hard because they did act very brainless). We had enough food and drink to last us 2 weeks. Which according to the news and then manager we be saved and all the infection would be gone before 2 weeks are even over.
