Saviour

I am beyond cold. Numb now, unable to feel anything other than tiredness. Even my shivering has stopped, although my hands are totally blue. If I could get myself to think I would know how very near to death I am, but my mind is frozen.

Hopelessly lost, I lay down and allow my eyes to close. No dreams, nothing, but something pushes it’s way into my consciousness. A body pressed close to mine, warming me. I reach one hand out and touch thick fur, slightly coarse on top but so, so deep. The steady breathing calms mine, and the heat seeps down to my bones.

My saviour gets to it’s feet, lopes away. I see him run, the wolf that has saved my life. Voices now, calling me. He must have heard them first. I am covered in shed fur, smell of wolf, but I am still alive.
