My preferred course T There is a popular saying that says "do what you love doing". English language and English in literature are my favourable subjects in high school. I never lacked behind in those two subjects,in fact I helped my classmates to understand every topics taught on those subjects. English language is a language I admire so much. According to Steve Jobs " what makes you happy its not only following your passion but doing what you admire". I don't want to go to school yo study a course that I won't be able to comprehend, rather I want to go to school to study my two best subjects(English and Literature) as a course (English literature) in other to achieve my goals. English literature is hundreds of years old and continues to be one of the most popular course of study in high school and universities around the world, according to encyclopedia. Literature in its broadest sense is any singly body of written works. I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious that's why I choose English literature. This essay will state more reasons and what motivated me to choose English literature as my preferred course. It sounded ridiculous when I told my aunty I want to study English literature as a course in the university. She asked for my reasons and which I gave her but she tried convincing me to change my course because there's nothing to gain from it rather than been a pastor or a teacher. She also added that its not necessary to study English because its our everyday language. I was about giving up when the words of Steve Jobs hits me hard to the ground "Don't let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary". I didn't choose to study English literature because of money. I choose it because of the following reasons. Firstly,i choose English literature because those are my two main best subjects and English is a language I admire the most.English language been my first language when I was a child makes me want to know more and the origin of it. I admire the fluent speakers if Americans and every time I would try to mimicked them in their pronunciations.maybe if I study English literature in school I will be able to do more in my pronunciation. Secondly,I want to explore my talent as a writer that's why I choose English literature. Writing and reading are things am passionate about. The moment I realize I just stayed up until five in the morning writing is that moment I know I am meant to be a writer. Why I write because creating something that didn't exist before is as close to magic as I will ever get and by the way according to Samuel Johnsons" everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it and the imagination to improvise". You have to have a lot of passion for what you are doing because it is so hard if u don't any rational person would give up. What really knocks me out is a book that when you're all done reading it you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you would call up on the phone whenever you felt like it.that doesn't happen much though. Writing makes me forget everything have ever gone through, every mistakes have ever made because am writing them down in other to make impact to the world. Roger Raffee said "there are some things I would like to say through my writing. It is there in those things where my writing is born and then breathes on its own" the only way I can achieve those words of Roger is by studying English literature. Thirdly, curiosity and jealousy drove me to choose English literature as a course. I admire every author of a book I read and I get jealous at whatever creativity they have. I get jealous of those fluent speakers out there and it makes me sad I can't speak like them. I am curious about English language and how it came to the world. I get jealous whenever I see great men receiving a standing ovation from over 23,000 people just for a word. There was a time I chose to study law because I know English and there I can write my own book but when I pick up a book to read I compared it to my and I realized am still a kid when it comes to writing I can't stop the tears falling from my eyes because my sentences constructions and punctuations are poor. That's why I chose literature as a course so that I will be able to edit my first novel. Furthermore, bringing my imagination to reality is one of my reasons for choosing my preferred course. According to Napoleon "imagination rule the world" when it comes to my imagination the sky is my limit. Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not and therefore the font of all invention and innovation in its arguably most transformable and reluctantly capacity, it is the power that enables us to emphasize with human whose experiences we have never shared. Sometimes you have to make things up to the truth that alter outcomes, without the power of the imagination we lack the power to alter outcomes,so if we can't imagine better outcomes in a better world we cannot act to achieve these. According to Walt Whitman "the English language is the accretion and growth of every dialect, race, and range of time and is both the free and compacted composition". Tell me why shouldn't I study English literature when a these great men with their quotes makes me want to crack my brain to comprehend whatever thing they are saying. During those times I had dubious mind on what to study and was caught in a web there were things that motivated me to chose English literature as a course. Reading books is part of my life the more I read the more I appreciate the work of art,the more I appreciate the work of art the more I want to study in other to write my own book for others to read and appreciate. Benjamin franklin said" nothing gives an author so much pleasure as to find his work respectfully quoted by other learned authors". Not only book but authors of those books were my motivations. I always encourage myself with a saying "if chinua Achebe could become a noble Laurent I also will be able to become a noble Laurent". Authors like Williams Shakespeare, chinua Achebe, chimamanda Adichie and many others are my motivators not only authors but great men as well such as Steve jobs Abraham Lincoln ,Samuel Johnson ,Albert Einstein and many others. Lastly life experiences motivated me. My grandma had little knowledge in education and it was challenging for her to speak to the outside world. Whenever she speaks she's been misinterpreted by others because of this I want to study English literature to avoid mispresentation and misinterpretation. In January 12th 2017 exactly 6:30pm at location roundabout I boarded a tricycle to go home when I saw a scene that attracted my attention.A taxi man was laughing at a lady who spoke a wrong English instead of she saying " I am a married woman" she said "I am a marriage woman" she was been misinterpreted by the taxi man. It was so shameful and I will help the uneducated ones in communication with The help of my study in English literature. In conclusion, studying English literature will help me achieve my goals as a writer, journalist, actress, lawyer etc. According to Samuel Johnson "a writer only begins a book ,a reader finishes it".
