Staring Down The Barrel

I was thinking earlier and it struck me as so strange

that all the world’s behaving in a way that is deranged.

But then I thought just that bit more, thought I was just so thick,

it’s got to be on a crazy slide when it’s controlled by lunatics.

They’ve broken out of the asylum, all these crazy girls and guys;

somehow they’ve achieved the power although I cannot work out why.

They are master manipulators, determining just what we will think,

we’ve become the willing pawns as they drag us towards the brink.

An instant annihilation is within the grasp of oh, so many now,

they’ve got access to those buttons – will someone tell me how

my life is held to ransom by those I’d never ever trust,

to leave me struggling in a fragile world because I really must.

It’s like I’m staring down the barrel of an enormous gun

and the trigger could be pressed – but I won’t be the one

to take that final option – no, the crazies have that choice

and in making that decision I have completely zero voice!
