Chapter1 (v.1) - Innocence

Author Chapter Note

It was easy to writte this chapter, after so much time spent drinking a coffee and thinking about the story. For me its kind of slow but i feel like its needed. Also i kept from giving the god a sex cause i saw no need for a being like that to have one.

There is a place, outside both time and space, a scarlet room, only two things stand out, a big map of the world in the middle of it and a humanoid being standing always next to it dressed in a crimson tunic and wearing a cow’s skull that covers its face, a being who knows it all past, present and future; the map it’s how the being acts: touching and moving objects in that map, this being has many names, mortals usually call him god of… and then followed by anything really.

With every move this being can change the world how we know it, make empires rise and make them fall, create great miracles and also great tragedies, destroy and create; but this being knows it all, every time it moves something it knows what’s going to happen even before the object touches the map, every time it touches an object, the being sighs, knowing exactly what’s going to happen… its … boring.

*knock*

*knock*

The being turns to one of the many doors that serve as entrance to the scarlet room, the being leaves a copy of itself who continues operating the map while it goes to answer the knocking. Already knowing who´s at the door and for the first time in a while, actually being happy about knowing, the being opens the door and then looks down.

A little girl wearing a crimson tunic just like the one the being is wearing, but not wearing anything on her face, her hair gold, her eyes emeralds and her skin opal, is standing in front of the door, a huge void behind her. The being with a hand gesture welcomes her to the scarlet room.

“Who are you? Where am I? What’s up with my clothes?” the girl asked.

The being takes a sit on a scarlet chair. “One question at a time young lady” it says. “I am a being of many names, you just call me however you feel comfortable”.

“John”

“John? Really?!” says John faking surprise. “well whatever. This is the scarlet room… kind of obvious for the furniture if I say so myself, a place free of time and space”.

The girl takes a seat directly in front of John and starts looking around the room, noticing different shelves filled with books, various scarlet colored accommodations, a king sized bed… with scarlet covers, and finally notices the figure who looks exactly like John moving things around on the big map on the middle of the room.

John follows her gaze and notices what sparked her curiosity. “Want to see what’s my reflection doing?” The girl nods as soon as John finished asking, then they both get close to the map. The girl is fascinated by how detailed the map is, the mountains, the seas, the cities, the towns, everything is in there.

“This is how I work”. John says pointing a finger to his reflection. “You see, I control destiny, I can make anything I want reality, using this map and these pieces” John adds while holding some of the mentioned pieces.

“but who i-”

“When I want to do other things, I leave a reflection of myself in charge of the front while I am away”

John waves a hand and the reflection disappears, then taking some pieces he starts putting some of them on opposite sides of the map, the girl is about to ask what was he doing when she notices the pieces turning into tinny people and start moving around, the ones at the left start cutting down trees and the ones on the right start planting crops. John drops another piece near the left group, as soon as it touches the map, they start to build houses. Then drops another one near the right, they start to build walls. He continues this process until both are big cities trading with little towns and sending expeditions outside their respective territories.

“The beginning of civilization is always filled with hope and to some degree, prosperity” Says John, grabbing some other pieces, the girl is smiling looking at the city on the left. “But, tragedy is also a big part of it” John adds while dropping the new pieces at the city on the left.

The pieces turn into an army, an army wearing the clothes of the city on the right, the army charges at the city. The defenses soon get overwhelmed and the people are killed or captures, soon the city burns to the ground and the army returns triumphant to their city.

“Why did you did that? That city was way more beautiful and happy than the other one.” Says the girl with tears in her eyes, staring angry at John.

“You see young one, a good story wouldn’t be one without conflict, tragedy is what moves hearths” says John cleaning the tears off the girl’s face. “But it’s also interesting because is unexpected, at least for you, you felt emotion, you felt bad for them because they suffered and angry at me for making it happen, that’s being human, sadly I am not one.” John says while placing his reflection again and patting the girl’s head.

“Why am I here?” asked the girl.

“I chose you to become my apprentice, you will become a god” answered John while taking a seat.

“Why?”

“I am bored and I thought some company would be nice” said John while handing a cup of tea to the girl.

“Why me?” asked the girl while she was receiving the cup.

“Innocence, is the reason, I chose you specifically because I felt like innocence was lacking on this room” said John sipping a little bit of his own cup of tea.

“You don’t even know my name”

“Yes I do Alice” said John while raising the cup to its mask.
