Though I did not know them extremely well, someone I knew died today, and it was quite harrowing. The finality of it really hit me - how we would never see him or speak to him again. In his personality, he was rather a lot like my uncle - I just didn't know him so well. We got on well, and I did like him. I wrote this poem expressing my feelings at the moment. I hope you enjoy.

Never again will we meet, nor speak.

No more visits at the weekend.

Never again will I hear your voice, nor laughter.

No more now. It’s the end.

Your loss came as a shock,

though one we did expect.

Despite this, it still hurts.

It’s a loss we all regret.

Though I did not know you well,

You were like an uncle

But I will miss you no less

And I still regret that you’re gone.

Never again will we see each other.

No more visits at the weekend.

Never again will we talk.

No more time for that now. It’s the end.

Separated now by death.

We never got to say goodbye.

I hope you are in a better place.

I hope you’re having a good time.

I’d bring you back if I could,

The loss was too hard, to soon.

But you’re asleep, in peace now.

Forever from this afternoon.

Goodbye, friend.
