Dark. It’s so black. And cold. I reached up for something to hold or touch to but my hand just floated in nothingness. I tried to shout, to call for anyone, to see if somebody was around. No words came out of my mouth. I touched my throat to feel it vibrate. It hurts to speak but nothing comes out. Tears began forming in my eyes. What’s that smell? I crouched low until I felt my hand touch the cold solid ground. I couldn’t see a thing but my finger caught on to something liquid. It was thick, sticky and awfully smelled. I put my hand before my eyes to take a closer look. I shrieked. Even though I couldn’t see a thing around me, I could visibly see a dark-red color around my finger. My nose twitched at its smell.

Blood.

Then I saw a light. It was still dark but I sensed a streetlight down on the road. I was standing on what looked like a mound and trees were all around me. A forest. It was sometime around midnight and it was raining. Why was I here again? I was supposedly on the way home when I… I tried to remember what I was doing on the forest near a cliff-side road… Right, I was chased by my stalker. I tried to confuse it by going through this thick and dense forest and now I was the one who’s lost. A car halted beside the streetlight. The driver got out and looked at his rear wheels. It burst. He went to the back of his car and took some tools. This is my chance. I got to go to him and ask for help so that creepy man won’t mess with me anymore. But as I walked towards the road a mysterious figure caught the corner of my eyes. Near a bulky tree was a silhouette the shape of a man, all black, with its big red eyes--- my mysterious stalker. And it was running towards me, its hands reaching for a grip of me. I tried to run, away from the terror. The next thing I knew, its devilish dark hand covered my mouth and the world turned black.

I woke up with a start. I looked around me. I pinched my arm and it hurt. Good, I’m not dreaming anymore. I was lying in the couch and not in my room, which was unusual since I don’t sleep in the living room. A piece of paper was placed on the table. I sat up to get it and read:

Daniel,

Eat your breakfast and take the medicine I left in the tray. Where were you last night? I need to talk to you. I’m sorry I couldn’t take care of you since I have loads of work to do. I’ll be back by 8.

Love lots,

Aunt Marie

I tried to stand up but my migraine kept me from doing so. My head throbbed with pain. Maybe I’ll just sleep it off and wait for Mom to come home. I took another nap thinking it would ease the pain I’m feeling but it only made it worse. I dreamt of it again; of being unable to speak and the sense of blood, but I was not in a dark place anymore. I looked and saw metallic equipments scattered throughout the room. It sent a shiver down my spine. I didn’t see it earlier but the room was filled with uncovered lifeless bodies. The corpses were already in a color of dirty white and were rotten. My stomach churned up, feeling disgusted.

I threw up as I watched those bodies tied up in a bloodied gurney. I couldn’t afford to look at those much longer. I shifted my eyes toward the end of the room. The metal bar door stood still between the windowless walls. Then there was a bang. It sounded like someone pounding on the door. It was getting louder as each second passed by. I want to run but where could I go to? The banging of the metal was frightening. It became louder and louder. My head throbbed again. And again. Then the door at the end of the room sounded. Bang. I tried to stay conscious but my headache kept on getting worse. The banging went louder until I woke to the sound of a knocking on the door. I’m in my sofa now. I looked at my clock which marked our family name Strokes. 8:15 P.M. I stood up and remembered Mom saying she will be home at 8. I heard my name being called.
