Human of the Man

Well, I heard one day that a man chopped off his head

Said that he did it with a pencil on paper's lead

Said that he did it so the numbers he was writin' down wouldn't punch him in the brain right before he went to bed

And now all those numbers and all those thoughts are dead

And the very next day I heard that his neighbor

Sawed off his hands

Just so that he wouldn't have to keep on doing minimum wage labor

Said he was gonna get his life together

And fly off to mars, to start a dairy farm

But when his resignation was accepted by his boss

Wanting to keep their money in their pockets, none of his fellow employees bothered to tell him was lost

Can you only imagine the cost?

The very next day,

They marked it as the start of the plague

The day the world went up in flames

They said it started to happen when people began to bargain off their souls

Just so that when they got home to dinner, they'd be eating out of full bowls

And that's what I call

A human of the man

They all became humans of the man

I'm a human of the man

Yes I am, yes I am, yes I am

I'm a human of the man.

Now have heard that Mrs. Sally

Grew up happily on the corner of Beverly and Greene

She's started to sip her tea with a little bit less glee

They say it started when she sold her heart to the factories

So that she could bring her son back home from overseas

Thought that if she could liberate his trigger finger he'd be free

And she became a human of the man

And now they're all humans of the man

I'm a human of the man

Yes I am, yes I am, yes I am

We're all humans of the man

And then down the street there's Mr.Stevens

They say he's been trying to get even

With the cigarettes that he hid in his beard

That would burn out his lungs and fog up his head so he wouldn't even be able to know his own fears

The smoke would grow so thick around his head that he stopped being able to see clear

And those cigarettes turned him into

A human of the man

He's now a human of the man

And I'm a human of the man

Yes I am, yes I am, yes I am

I'm a human of the man

We're all humans of the man

We're all humans of the man

Mhmmm...

We're all a human of the man.
