Summary

I started out a normal girl. Or at least, that's what I was to me. I like hanging around my friends, I like playing games, I like going to school and learning, I like being creative, and I also like helping people. So one day, while I was at the beach with my family, something happened. And when I woke up, everything was different.

Chapter1 (v.1) - You awake?

Author Chapter Note

If you have read my book The Tweenage Life of Amy Smith, this is sort of a squeal to that, same characters, just completely fictional in the events that take place, it's just saying, what would happen if Amy Smith (I) got superpowers.

It was 60 degrees at the beach that day, really warm for the Pacific Northwest. The water was icy cold but I didn't care. My pant legs rolled up, I stood knew deep in the water. The waves crashed against my bare legs as I gradually inched deeper into the sand every time a wave pulled out. The sand beneath my feet disappeared causing me to step farther towards the horizon going deeper into the ocean. I breathed in deeply, tasted the salty sea air. I didn't ever want to leave. I felt one with the ocean. Even on a grey day like this, I felt happy and at peace with the water lapping at my legs.

I heard my mom call my name. It was time for us to head back. Begrudgingly I turned around and started to walk back towards shore. That's when everything went wrong. The next thing I knew, a wave came up from behind and grabbed me, the force pulling me under. Panic surged through my head. I tried to make it to the surface but I was flipped almost upside down which made it difficult to get right-side up again. I flailed my arms and legs, struggling to the surface. I barely noticed a flash of dim blue light out of the corner of my eye, but quickly dismissed it as I was filled with panic. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head and I was encased in nothing but darkness.

...

I heard a faint beeping and a dim florescent light flickered through the cracks of my eyelids. I struggled to move. I had to force my eyes open. Once I did, I blinked harshly and adjusted to the bright white light. I then slowly tried to sit up to see my surroundings. As soon as I did so, my vision blurred for a second and a slight rush came to my head, but I was soon able to take in the room I was in. It was white, I noticed the bed I was on was a hospital bed. A window was to the left of me and along the window sill was a series of cards and small wrapped gifts and other colorful items. The cards saying "Get well soon!" in bright bold letters.

A nurse walked into the room holding a clipboard. She smiled when she saw me awake. "Amy! Glad to see you're awake! So how are you feeling? Is there anything I can get you? I'll call your doctor in here in just a minute to check up on you."

"I'm feeling fine, if anything a bit hungry but... what happened?" I replied.

"Do you not remember? Well, I guess that's common for patients who suffered a head trauma. The weird thing is, you should've died because of the amount of water you swallowed but we were surprised to find none."

"Water...?"

"You were too far into the ocean and you slipped causing you to hit your head on a rock. You were flipped upside down in the process, causing you to not be able to float to the surface as easily. You were under water for about five minutes until you finally walked back on shore unconscious. That was a month ago. We've been caring for you here ever since."

I shook my head trying to clear it. "Wait, I was in a coma - for a month?!"

The nurse nodded slowly. "Where's my family?" I wanted to see them. Let them know I was awake.

"I can contact them to let them know you're awake. I'll go get your doctor now." The nurse left the room. I sat back, resting my head against the wall. I glanced over at the various "get well soon" gifts on the window sill. I noticed that many of them were from the beehives or any of my close friends. I wondered how many people had noticed I was gone other than the small group of friends I hung out with at lunch. Judging by how many people welcomed me back when I was sick it was probably a lot. But I didn't want to jinx it.

The doctor came in a minute later, he did a few check ups, to see if I was okay but I was soon free to go. I was told my parents were in the waiting room so I walked there expecting just my mom or dad. When I got there, I was surprised to see my entire family standing there. I smiled to see my 21 year old brother Even had come home early for me. Both my sisters were there, though Emma would probably be leaving soon back to Brazil. I wasn't surprised to see Sasha was with them, she was only 11 after all. They all had smiles on thier faces as they saw me appear in the doorway. They each gave me a hug, and I gingerly allowed it. I wasn't keen on touching other people, but this was okay. As I was hugging my brother, I silently wondered where Arianne was. She was probably back at the house. Arianne was Even's fiance and they were both supposed to come in June for their first wedding reception here in Vancouver, and then go back to Utah where they would have their second with everyone else. When we were done with all the hugs, we all got in the van and drove home.
