DESPERATE GIRLFRIEND'S .

I was sitting hunched forward on the park bench trying to recover from the hectic night that was behind me. I had been running in a damn sircle four times now. Out of breath and ready to give up on this hopeless morning exercise , I sat up straight , leaning back against the back of the bench . A shadow came in between the wonderful relationship I was building with the sun .

"Alexis ! ," the voice of my brother's girlfriend, ripped me out of my lazy moment . What has he done this time . I was tired of covering for him all the time but to top it off I was tired of her being so stupid . She should've curved him long ago but I guess she was was jut too blind sighted to see she was not even a priority . Blind sighted by the stupid thing men  cherish with their lives. The thing women was never allowed to know - BRO CODE.

"...do you ?" She asked as I heard nothing she said .

"Do I what? " I asked lazily as she rolled her eyes carelessly.

"Do you know where he was last night I..." the question was hardly out and I already knew the answer . I've found myself in this situation too many times before . It was one of the rules that a bro should obbey at all times . Never break the code .

'When a bro's girlfriend asks about his whereabouts . You know nothing and that meant ALWAYS. '

I was ready . Ready to give up this game . The man species after all referred to all of woman kind as 'hoe's ' . I've had enough of it , I couldn't take it anymore . I couldn't enjoy a lazy minute in the early sun without being attacked by a clueless girl who acted like she was needy to a man who hadn't  had the balls to tell her that he was getting drunk with his male friends . Playing wingman for his friend who hadn't had the slightest desire to become more than just a one-night-stand to his target . Poor girl sat there and believed every word that came out of their mouths.

I liked Fiola. She wasn't like all the other girls my brother introduced to me ,  not only was she beautiful but very much intelligent , but as blind as mole when it came to the one bro loving man on earth she decided to fall for . Yes , my brother Michael Parker.  He was so wrong for her in all ways possible . I couldn't never even imagine him settling down.Hope still had her that he'd eventually pop the question ,looking in her eyes right there and then,  I couldn't get myself to tell her the truth . She wasn't ready .

"I really don't know anything, I was at my apartment working the entire night. " I said standing up fast walking my way in the direction into the woods . She caught up rather quickly . "I know you know something. For someone who's so close to her brother you sure know very little ." She said playing her cards rather smart .

"I don't know seriously ." I said a bit irritated that I couldn't enjoy the sun in peace and now my jog.

"You know, you know nothing just like all of his ' bro's ' .  Seems a bit suspicious to me. " the ghetto side of this lawyer came out seeing the light of day , " are you siding with the guys now? What happened to girl power ? Girl Code? "

She was playing her cards very well . It persuaded me to talk but I had no idea why I felt the need to stay loyal to bro-code when I was clearly of the other sex . Maybe it was because I had grown up having more male friends , practically growing up in with the bro-code. Or maybe I was just protecting my brother .

"Girl code?" I asked stopping in the middle of the path that lead through the woods , catching a breath , " girl code doesn't exist , hun , there is nothing stronger than the bond between bro's . It doesn't matter what , a brother will always stay loyal to his boys . Girls , they don't know the value of doing just that . If I knew and I'm not saying I do , but if indeed I did know about my brother's whereabouts and still played clueless to you , it's because you're going to run right to him and confront him about it if I told you ,in the process mentioning that I told you so your information is certainly onto the last detail correct.  And that hun , is why girl code doesn't exist ."

I continued on the path of running leaving Fiola to her own thoughts . Although I was sick and tired of men talking the way they do about women and thinking we all so clueless to their ways , I still felt somehow obliged to remain loyal to their code , not knowing why I still protected them .

" Alexis Faith Parker !  " my friend , Julia's voice echoed through my apartment, sounding like I'd just hooked up with her boyfriend . Gracious god, what now . These girls had no respect for my still very fresh hangover . I was halfway downing my home-made hangover cure ,as the unpleasant drink spilled all over my oversized T-shirt .

"What has he done now? " I shouted out as the white , blonde haired beauty stood in my living area .

"He went to watch the game with his 'boys' , " she said walking up and down in my living room , " at Medison Square Garden ," she was now giving me crazy eyes , this was breaking point, " he had the tickets for a whole freaken week , I though he was going to surprise me ! But than ... oh ... you won't believe what that two faced bro loving piece of selfish flimbone did, he took Gary instead . Gary . Seriously Gary could've gotten his own ticket . I don't care if he forgotten to get his own damn ticket . Uuuuurrrrrgggg !!!!! " she screamed out in frustration landing on my couch , " he knows I'm a huge fan of the New York Knicks but he took Gary . You gotta help me , I got to get him to stop putting his freaken  ' bro's ' first. I should've listened to my dad and kept going with white guys . " she finished making me laugh as she looked at me more angrily.

'If you have two tickets to the big game the last person you invite is your girlfriend. '

"Sweetie , it doesn't matter if it's a white or a black brother , they're all equal ' bro loving piece of selfish flimbones' if that's even a word . If you can't be them , join them ."

"Ofcourse it's not a word , it just sounded like it fit in there . " she buried her face into the cushion , "are you gonna help me or not ?"

"How am I supposed to help you? I know I can be a b - i - t - c - h sometimes, but I'm not a witch , waving a magic wand around , fixing flimbones ." I said with a slightest bit of humor in my voice . Earning a little smile tugging from the corner of her plum lips .

"I want to know the rules of the 'bro-code' , " she said staring me straight in the eye wanting me to see that she was absolutely serious . It was a big NO - NO.

"The girlfriend was never to know Bro-code. "

Unlike Fiola, Julia could be trusted to the fullest . She wasn't going to run into Graham's arms ,telling him she knows all about their brotherhood privacy. She was going to use it for her own privileges .

"So do I , " Fiola's voice echoed through the hollow hall , " it should be illegal that real estate agents get the best apartments ," she continued as she stood in front of the big wall stretched window .

"How did you get in ? I don't know anything about the bro code , since you haven't notice I'm a girl ." I said realising the stain on my shirt getting sticky and smelly , pulling it over my head  to stand in nothing but my underwear  .

"Yeah right you don't , " Fiola stated sarcastically avoiding my question .

"...you grew up with boys , you know more about men than men themselves ." Julia added .

"Come on , I swear on the Bible , may God know I'm not lying , that I won't tell Michael that I know about anything concerning the guy rules . I swear to always keep it to myself . "  Fiola said holding her right hand in the air .

"You can't not trust a black women who swears on the Bible ." Julia cut in trying to make me see into the point . They were desperate to be filled with knowledge of the brotherhood rules . They were desperate to get their men into their corner , without his bro's interfering  .

My doorbell was buzzed repeatedly as I immediately  stood up to attend to the unidentified person on the other side , completely forgetting the fact that I was wearing only my underwear . Julia and Fiola was getting lost in their own conversation exchanging stories , too occupied to remind me I was wearing no clothes  . I didn't bother to look through the peep-hole . I flung the door open to find an astonished handsome man of colour , standing in front of me .

"Mrs . Parker?  " he questioned not once taking his eyes of me .

" I believe that's me . " I said standing confidently in front of the stranger , like it was a habit to attend to the door in my current appearance . Honestly , I was just trying to play it cool . I heard footsteps come up from behind me.

" I'm Darrick ... " he said as I the name was unfamiliar to me , "...Cooper ."

Holy mother... I remember now .

"Mr . Cooper ," I said loosing my cool , looking for something nearby to cover me with  as there was nothing in sight , "I'm so so sorry Sir, I don't usually... I mean I never answer the door like this . " I rambled on as he stood there laughing  . For the first time a guy actually made me feel stupid .

"Why are you laughing ?" I asked rather irritated but somewhat relieved .

"I've never seen a woman play it cool like you just did and suddenly loose her nerve like that .  It's kinda cute ." he said making me want to gag at his last three words .

"I am not ' cute ' . " I answered more irritated . He peeked over my shoulder .

"Was I interrupting something?  " he said as he clearly saw the two women who was minding my business . They both fully appearing  together explaining the were very much straight .

" They don't mind me being a lesbian , Mr . Cooper " , I said sternly as he was fixing his attention back on me , " I hope it won't be a problem . I can direct you to a different real estate agent if..."

"...not at all Ms . Parker . " he said as I could hardly finish the lie I was feeding him .

"Please , come inside Sir ..."

"...call me Darrick . "

"Darrick ,I'll be just a few seconds , than I'll be ready , do you want anything to drink while you wait ?"

"Oh no I just came to check if you were doing alright , when you didn't show I was a bit concerned . You have quite the reputation for never being half a nano second late . So I just want to check on you but you seem fine.  "

Fine ? Excuse you . It was hard to keep it together , I wanted to attack him with vile words , but he was my client . I wasn't going to risk loosing my job . And I wanted to keep my ghetto alter ego tucked far away.

"I'm very sorry s...Darrick . I promise it won't happen again . Please don't tell my boss ?" I pleaded him  . Hating being the vulnerable one .

"Do you have to be somewhere ?" Julia's mouth started running . I knew what was coming next . I turned around to scold her with my eyes .

"Uhh... no ,since Ms . Parker here ,couldn't make it ,and I was supposed to look at a few places right now until...four , I'm just going to be heading out to..."

"...your girlfriend? " nosy Fiola interrupted him .

"No , my friends. " he stated firmly .

There it was the rules of all rules .

"BRO'S BEFORE HOE'S "

"Not until four ," Julia said , "so come on in and join us , we were just about to watch the game ," inviting him in like it was her place .

"I'm sure Darrick..."

"...sure ," he said having completely bad manners interrupting me again .

Thank you Julia Cummings and Fiola O'Neal for invading my privacy furthermore . I knew they wouldn't stop until they knew the ins and outs of BRO-CODE ...
