Joy glows iridescent through the trees;

it’s in the melody the robins sing.

Inside a book, in clever words, and in captivating thoughts formed -

it is in the scent of fresh bread still warm.

in the simplest places, it is found,

in the silly, in the riveting, in the least profound

I found joy in stars on cloudy nights

and in their distant smiles and city lights;

In the brisk morning air and the day that could be,

In the kaleidoscope of colors all around me, I see.

I cannot find it within myself or in my abilities,

for what is seen are dark and crippling realities.

I found it in the love that is here, the grace that is already there

Not to be earned, but to accept and declare.

For it is because of the grace He rendered

And by no fault can it be hindered.
