The Hunger

You’re drooling, grabbing, snatching, plotting,

You want, you take, you steal, you scheme,

You’re jaws, you’re a throat, a tongue, a stomach,

You Gnash, you Swallow, you taste, you digest,

You will eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat,

Food and love and admiration and wealth and goods and entertainment and services and information,

You will eat it all,

You will never be full,

You want to taste the flavour of this food; those people; that lifestyle,

You want to absorb this knowledge, those feelings, that ideal,

Sometimes you give,

Then you gobble the gratitude, you wolf down the warmth, and smack your lips and pat your stomach,

You worry for your family, your friends, your neighbours; it makes you feel sick, feel empty,

And so you eat their woes, and ah, that hits the spot,

The world is made of industries, and workers, and stuff,

To satiate the beasts, with their million billion hungers,
