It's impossible to cope
The pain is way too much
All that's left to do is
To pray and
To hope

I’m staring at my phone

At the brightly lit up screen

My hands poised over the keys

My mind whirling, unseen

Our conversations from long ago

Displayed out in front of me

Each word striking a chord inside

That threatens to send my pain free

How long has it been

Since we’d last seen each other?

Since we played and fought and talked?

Since I said you were like my brother?

What was it that happened

That drove you far away?

That made you break and split apart

And left me to decay?

I type your name

And press “Send”

Wishing feverently

That time would bend

That I’d be able to go back

And erase all that I said

That I’d lose the fight

And win your heart instead

But the past is done

The future set

And so I sit here waiting

Trying not to fret

Will you answer

And let me apologize?

Or will you ignore me

And leave me in demise?

The phone beeps

And I see what you say

Everything else

Just seems to fall away

“I forgive you”, you write

The words big and bold

Impossible for me to ignore

Enough for me to hold

And deep inside my heart

In the place you’d once obtained

A warmth starts to flood and fill

And hope blossoms again
