I DON’T KNOW WHY

I don’t know why

I couldn’t be happy.

I don’t know why

I couldn’t be sad.

I don’t know why

I was like a yeti.

I don’t know why

I was always mad.

But when I was young

I used to drink beer,

But when I was young

My vision was clear.

But when I was young

I told lots of jokes,

But when I was young

I didn’t like smoke.

And ten years later

I drank lots of brandy,

And ten years later

I stopped being dandy.

And ten years later

I wanted to smoke,

And ten years later

I stopped telling jokes.

I don’t know why

I couldn’t be happy.

I don’t know why

I couldn’t be sad.

I don’t know why

I was like a yeti.

I don’t know why

I was always mad.

And now above me

Lie piles of snow,

And now above me

Flies a black crow.

And now above me

Rests a gravestone.

I open my eyes

And wake with a mone.
