I always thought the letter “E”

Was quite as strange as it could be;

It makes no sound, then makes a sound

This letter really does astound.

Its shape is strange as it could be:

It looks quite like a backward three

In cursive, say, it’s even worse

The shape was the reason for this verse.

In preschool, toddlers, writing free

Like to inscribe this backward three

Just like a three, all turned around;

This oddity does the letter crown.

Sometimes it rests, sometimes it speaks:

Incredibly strange are its techniques

Sometimes its voice it lends to others;

Teaching “E” is a pain to mothers.

To finish off and to conclude,

To be so strange is to be rude.
